How was Esther able to get into the ICU?

Possible Spoilers

When Esther tries to smother Daniel with the pillow while he's in ICU, how was she even able to get into the ICU?

Maybe this isn't true for every hospital, but whenever I've visited someone in ICU (and I'm talking about 4 different hospitals), the door to the area has always been locked and can only be entered if someone actually unlocks the door.

Also in ICU, aren't those patients constantly monitored?

I find it really strange that a 9 year old girl (Yes, I know she really wasn't 9, but no one knew that yet)would be allowed to enter an ICU area (Unless, she somehow sneaked in) and also that no one was aware of what she was doing to Daniel.

Outside of this, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and was on the edge of my seat through the very intense (and tense!) ending!

A few of the ICU floors I've been to only allow family members on that floor along with guests. While Security guards and hospital personnel are on the ward not all are monitored 24/7 unless the patient is coding like Daniel was in the movie. Doctors, nurses, orderlies and janitor staff comes in and out all day but not one to keep monitoring he patient unless it's a high risk patient.

I'm sure all hospitals are different but this was my experience when my dad was in the Icu and that hospital was the worst
