Sister Abigail's death? Ran off the road then dragged into the snow and had her skull bashed in with a hammer. That's not light stuff. She was replaced with the younger sister and everyone moved on like nothing happened. Otherwise good movie!
I agree. and i thought for sure the dad and police would start suspecting esther at that point. a woman in charge of an orphanage is typically not going to have that many enemies
Didn't that happen just a little before the final confrontation between Kate and Esther? At the point that Sister Abigail was murdered, things were beginning to pick up, so the movie focused on other points. Sister Abigail's body was eventually discovered, so of course an investigation would have to take place. It wasn't glossed over. We already knew who did it, so what happened after the body was discovered, isn't necessarily important.
It was glossed over. It was glossed over because the writers didnt know how to address it without shortening the movie by half. Because if Kate would have told police that Esther did it at that point there's your ending.
Sure. Okay. Either that or the directors/writers just didn't feel it necessary to carry that plot point any further after a certain point in the movie. Like I said, an investigation would have taken place after her body was discovered and unless Kate knew that it was Esther that murdered Sister Abigail, she couldn't said anything to the police.
It seems to me that it would have been natural for Kate to express her concerns to the police. Whether they would have looked much into it, is hard to say. It does seem to me that the police would've focused more on the family, since the Sister had been there to visit with the family and the death was of such a violent nature. Unless there had been a serial killer going around killing people with hammers, the police would have to assume that Sister Abigail was killed by someone she knew. The logical conclusion would be to look at the family. Of course, as another poster noted, this may have been done "off camera".
