What was wrong with nicole?
From the first movie, everything he bitched about in a girl she fufilled. She knew about the library and loved the action and excitement she was perfect for him.

shareThey want the romantic development in each film, so they have to get rid of the girl from the previous flick.
You're so ugly, it's a fact!
Just assume they all died and he's too broken up to talk about it...that's what I did.
shareI never made any assumption about her "death".. just look at Flynn in the movie.. he'd never really "settle down".. and his life is, now, THE LIBRARY.. In fact that's the realization he came to in the film.. that.. he's kind of married to his job/destiny.. I'd think even Nicole would have gotten tired of the jet setting ways.. and even then.. she wouldn't be with him on EVERYTHING.. so the seperation.. never getting a moment to themselves, look at her interruption of Flynn and his mother at the end of the first film.. could you MAINTAIN a relationship like that?
That was my take on it anyway..
I'm not being serious about the death thing you crazy guy...
What I meant was, any time they have a series where a character mysteriously disappears, in order to get past the plot hole, I just assume they died and everyone is too broken up to talk about it. Helps resolve the issue:)
She had a date with "Lost" . . . and Emily had a date with "Burn Notice." :)
Tho it is dark . . . know our flag . . . is still there.
I'm not one who likes the whole "Bond Girl" thing (having a new love interest in every movie) but for some reason it works with the character as mentioned in a above post; it shows how tied down to the job he is.
Excuses are like @ssholes, everybody has one and they all stink
He said in the movie that "it didn't work". I think she was tired of him.
In the "real life" reason, the actress took another job and probably the writers wanted to go the Indiana Jones road (so, if there had been a 4th movie, Nicole could have been back)
