Why the name change

I own this movie and it is a great movie but I just noticed that the title was changed to The Ghost....Anyone know why? or was it just a mistake?

"The Ghost" (also the title of the novel from which it was adapted) was the original title of the film when it was first released in the UK and elsewhere in Europe. For the U.S. release, it was re-edited, dubbing over certain profanities so it could have a PG-13 rating. I believe it was renamed to "The Ghost Writer" to distinguish the different U.S. version.

its the other wway around, the movie was released in the uk as the ghost writer, thats what i saw on the poster anyway. Then for some reason on dvd or later it was changed to the ghost
the ghost writer is a more complete title

calling it the ghost is stupid, it could be just another hammer horror movie

And on my copy it actually says "The Ghost Writer" in the end credits.

OCJOC

Because it would be mistaken for that Patrick Swayze-Demi Moore-Whoopie Goldberg film, GHOST. That's why!!

I don't know what yall are smoking, but it has always been called The Ghost Writer. Never just the Ghost!
