Who were the guys that were following the ghost writer to the ferry?

This may sound stupid, but I missed that bit completely. Was it Ruth's men? Who were they? They showed some ID to get on the ferry, so were they CIA agents? And what happened to them, just decided that they won't follow the ghost writer because he managed to get off the boat?

I'd really appreciate it if someone could clarify it for me.

Thanks!

They were Ruth's men and got trapped on the ferry, while the Ghost managed to leap to the landing and escape.

Then why didn't she try killing him soon after? Or why was the ghost writer so confident to attend the opening in London? Shouldn't he still be worried about people who are trying to kill him?

No. They were not Ruth's men. They followed The Ghost from Emmitt's house. Ruth didn't know TG was going to Emmitt's. Hell, TG didn't know he was going to Emmitt's. He was just following the GPS instructions that McAra had input on the day McAra had last driven the BMW.

The two guys were there because they work for Emmitt. They were probably called by Emmitt's wife while TG & Emmitt were meeting.

I don't have a dog. And furthermore, my dog doesn't bite. And furthermore, you provoked him.
