shareLang knew at the end when The Ghost told him about knowing that Prof. Emmett was working the CIA. As he was getting out of airplane he told Mrs. Lang that they needed to talk since while he was the prime minister he did what she told him. I think Mr. Lang at the end before getting shot knew that she was part of it, in the picture when they were together you can see Mrs. Lang but The ghost writer couldn't put it together because he thought Mr. Lang and Emmett well the only one on it. Mrs. Lang was the one who introduce them when they were at Cambridge. She got him into politics and Emmett had the connections. Emmett probably couldn't get him into politics since they say that he was always chasing girls while in college. So he got a female agent get close to him and get him into politics. You can see a picture on them handing out fliers.
The only question I have is why Mr. Lang was chosen and not someone else who was interested in politics? was it because he had money, he looks? or because he was able to connect with people and he was easy to control unlike someone who is already in politics.

I don't think Adam was CIA because of the trip to Washington.
You can clearly see Ruth is against it, because it links him to Washington, but he still goes with it. If he was CIA I guess he wouldn't.
As for the date he met Ruth, when did we get the official one? we heard him saying one, later he said it might have been incorrect. The newspaper shows them together in 77, so after his enlistment in 75, but it doesn't mean that's the first time they were together.

His wife being an operative, but not him would not have been very effective. In order to directly influence U.K. policy, they needed an operative in the P.M. spot. share
I haven't read the book but the movie implys he was not political at all. Whether he knew and was just a face or didn't know either way its clear the wife makes the decisions and controls him. He even defers to her more than once about what to do about the ICC. I think the wife did everything she could to make her husband not look connected to USA. She tried to get him to fly back to London when the ICC wanted him. I think she had his card back dated to 1975 so it wouldn't appear he got into polotices because of her or Emmett. They dated it before. He was just an actor. A puppet she could control. Emett couldn't run. She had ties to the states so they found a good looking completely British guy they could control.
