Dumb question

So did the second ghost die at the end ? And was it an accident or assassination.

reply

Polanski strongly suggests on the DVD that he dies. I guess it's open-ended, but the flying papers sure as heck suggest he's hit.

reply

But how could they arrange his killing so fast? He wasn't invited to the book party and they didn't even know he would be there.

reply

That's how a lot of people reason--and I do, too, because I want the Ghost to be alive. On the DVD commentary, Polanski or some assistant producer (or maybe McGregor) comments on this subject. I'll have to rewatch it and see what they say.

The way I look at it is that someone (Tom Wilkinson, most likely) not only had to count on the Ghost showing up, but also be able to radio/phone the assassins the exact moment when the Ghost stuns Ruth with the discovery. All this stretches credulity...except, I suppose, if you're dealing with the CIA.

reply

Yeah, that's too far-fetched. I used to watch everything on DVD and loved the Special Features. Now my Samsung DVD player doesn't play my DVDs very well and I watch everything on Netflix or amazon. I wish amazon provided the Special Features when you buy a movie. Do you know of a way to access that, other than on the original DVD?

reply

You're right--they should include the special features. But they don't. I will try to re-watch the commentary today or tomorrow, and post what was said.

[EDIT: I loaned the DVD to a friend, so I can't watch the features. Will get around to it later in the month.]

MacGregor's last line was cut:

Damn it! Mugged again!
