'The Sure Thing'

Everyone is comparing this to other similar teen-theme movies , but I am surprised this one has not been mentioned (description taken from its IMDB page)

Plot Summary for The Sure Thing (1985)
College freshman John (Gib) Gibson decides to go cross country to visit his friend in California during winter break. Awaiting there is a bikini-clad babe whom his friend assures him is a "sure thing". Meanwhile, Allison, a cute (but somewhat anal retentive) girl at Gib's college has also decided to head out to Cal. to see her boyfriend during break. Gib and Allison are thrust together on a road trip from hell, and somewhere along the way, they find each other's company to be tolerable. Now, what will become of Gib's "sure thing?"

yeah i totally thought that too when about 15 minutes into the movie the girl jumps into the judge to tag along. actually i kinda liked The Sure Thing. Aside from Rex, this movie was quite bad.

About halfway through I figured they had The Sure Thing in mind when they made this, especially because the friend's name in both movies is Lance (Anthony Edwards character in The Sure Thing). The Sure Thing is one of my all-time favorites; this didn't live up to that, but it was quite good.

Yeah, Sex Drive is just like a mediocre version of "The Sure Thing".

I disagree. The Sure Thing had 2 story lines, the girls and the guys, and they both had different adventures that turned them off to going for the "sure thing" (she had a fiance who was dull and boring, he was going to sleep with some random chick set up for him).

The Sure Thing was perfect for John Cusack, he has a certain likability that makes you want to root for him.

Sex Drive was more like Eurotrip, none of it was ever intended to be taken seriously. If you want serious, pop Schindler's List into your DVD player.

Yes, was thinking about the similarities also.
