Just another great film I'll never see
I'm in San Diego and you'll never see this outside LA or NY.
Chocolat didn't come out on DVD.
I have to admit, Intruder did come out on DVD.

I saw the film at the NY Film Festival last week. Although it did not have a distributor yet, I am sure that sooner or later it will get a US Release, either through IFC Films or Sony Classics which would ensure a DVD release. The narrative is fairly straight forward and the subject matter (child soldiers, African civil unrest) will generate interest among art house film audiences.
shareChocolat is on DVD in the US. I saw it there.
That movie made me feel and see what Cinema truly is.....I heard it on in the other room, some friends had it on...and when it started, and I couldn't tell what what was going on. Granted, the sound of waves started the movie, and that draws me in....I had to walk in the room to understand by looking at the screen; and still it wasn't clear. I was so happy. This was something worth watching! Gloria!
If you can understand what is going on while not looking at the screen: not cinema.
You are weak if it plays in LA and you don't make it from San Diego. I once drove from Chicago to Detroit -- just to see a film.
shareI believe that this film was picked up by IFC Films. That means it will get a theatrical release and a Movies on Demand release. So many people will be able to see this film because of the MOD.
shareJust saw it at the SF Film Festival, where Denis screens all of her most recent films. The SFIF is worth it as a late April vacation. Over 100 films screened during a 3 week period. Go to the website, scan the program, pick the best weekend (better yet, take an extra day on each end), buy your tickets on line, get a place near Japantown, and you are set. Great city, great food, great films for 3-4 days, and all within walking distance....
shareI saw (too late) that it also played at the LA Film fest in June. So it has played NYC, SF, LA for fests only. IFC films supposedly owns the release rights but I haven't seen anything on their website about it coming out anytime soon. So frustrating as it looks like a good movie.
Maybe I'll see if Amazon Fr. has it for sale yet...
It comes out in France on DVD on September 28.
shareIFC films bought it for the United States.
That means that it will have a small run in theaters, on demand, and come out on DVD. Hopefully within a year.
I really want to see this movie, so I've been looking into it.
I belong to the IFC Center, so I will have to keep an eye out for the release date. Also the film comes on in the UK on DVD and Blu-Ray on December 6.
shareCool! Thanks for those dates. I might not be able t wait for it to come to the US. I might have to buy it on Amazon UK. Thanks for the info!

I know it will be on demand on IFC this November in the USA. I believe it will be by the end of Nov.

A lot of movies don't make it to the Dallas area even with a lot of independent movie houses. But thanks to netflix I did get to see "That Evening Sun" with Hal Holbrook. It looks like it was barely released. He appeared with his wife Dixie Carter who died soon after.
It is out on criterion.
I'm in--drum roll--Lubbock Freaking Texas, and I'm watching it right now. Doesn't hurt that there's a major university here, granted. I got this copy through interlibrary loan, aka "the greatest invention in history," but the local Hastings video store also has a copy.
