Lovely review. Denis is definitely anti-colonial. Only quibble I have. But I think the film is "a labor of love" and transcends her personal stance. At that same time, though the viewpoint character is white, Denis is more with the character who says in effect, yes you feel you belong here, (whites) but you really don't belong to it as we do (blacks). Google the interview Denis gave about this film to, I think, the Guardian. A UK newspaper in any case.
