Why on earth did she stay? I get that it was her farm and all, but when the military is packing up and telling you its time to go, wouldn't you put aside all personal sentiments and collect your family and find a safe place? Perhaps to return when it is more stable? Either way, that farm is gone, and staying isn't going to help matters.

To me, she went about her business, while not completely ignoring her world collapsing around her, being oblivious to the danger it presented to her. She was delusional if she thought they were immune from being taken over by the rebels.

And yes, I know I'm not one to talk, not being in a French colonized country in the midst of a revolution.

It's the $64000 question. We understand she's a driven woman, but never exactly find out what's driving her, nor really understand why she continues to go ...

It borders on the bizarre, especially when considering the already fractured relationships we see amongst her family members.🐭

It's her home. People can become very attached to where they live, to an irrational degree. They may fear the sense of dislocation coming from moving.
