Joss's 5 Year Plan?

So I heard that Joss had a plan for the show to develop over 5 years.

Obviously, the show felt really rushed and crammed together. There were many different threads that could have been explored, and a lot more depth they weren't able to flesh out. Also, of course FOX dictated what the show could and could not do.

So my question is, what was the plan for 5 seasons? Was there more, or was it the same plot just stretched out more completely?

If anyone knows, I would appreciate it.

I don't know about the five year plan, but the bluray features mention that season 3 would've been Echo, Sierra, and Victor going around taking down Rossum's various operations. He referred to it as "Adele's Angels," like Charlie's Angels.

I would have watched the heck out of a that.

Heck yeah.

Season 2 and the Epitaphs are basically Joss' plans for Seasons 2-5. Maybe the first half of Season 2 is what really should have been Season 2....then the Senator Perrin likely would have been a focus in Season 3....and so forth.

Like you said it felt super rushed and crammed together. Obviously Joss was trying to tie in all these cool story lines while he could. The Epitaph episodes are where the show was heading in the end. Kinda like they're the... EPITAPH of the show(or world?).

fast forward to about 2:20

"man the torpedoes, if this is our only shot there's no holding back"

and he's referring to season 1, so even then he was ready to give all the best stories he had. Because as he said, in a story like Dollhouse it can last forever, you can keep making up scenarios because there's nothing holding you back. "say seven years" is what Joss said, I assume he's referencing Buffy since it lasted 7 years.

That wouldn't surprised me about the plan to develop the show over 5 years. You are right about the show feeling rushed and crammed together. That's because Fox was going to cancel Dollhouse like they did with Firefly. It's why I don't like Fox very much. The two Epitaph episodes pretty much gave us an idea of what Joss Whedon wanted to do with the show. There's even a Dollhouse graphic novel (also called Epitaphs)that explores the events of what caused the apocalyptic world shown in the two Epitaph episodes. I think it would've been cool to see that on screen if the show hadn't been cancelled.
