Was SPOILERS planned? and a few niggling aspects

Love this show - season 1 is a bit too inconsistent - especially that first half and the 50 minute length really messes up the flow IMHO (just like season 1 of Fringe)

But season 2 is one of the finest seasons of TV IMHO (especially of it's time) - yeah it had some duds (Instinct being the big one that seemed to belong in the early of episodes of season 1) but it was still consistent and the final 4 episodes are just must-see IMO

Joss is a hero of mine and i know how he likes to plan ahead at times (Buffy season 5)
He stated that he had a 5 or 6 season plan for the Dollhouse story - but being on Network TV, we knew it wouldn't last that long - it was a miracle it lasted two seasons - so the story had to be truncated and rushed (season 2 wouldn't have been so good if it wasn't for the fact that Joss had a feeling it was going to be axed so decided to move the story along TBH)

But i read an article from 2014 on avclub about 14 shows that should have stopped after 1 season - Ryan Murphy's big 3 shows, Heroes (obviously), and ridiculous entrants like Modern Family and Desperate Housewives - but at number 14 was Dollhouse - and the writer said this

less than half way through the slated 13-episode run, Fox canceled the show, resulting in a disappointing downward spiral. Without time to tease out the Big Bad, it seems one was picked at random to fulfill the role of the evil corporate entity and push the show to its conclusion.

First off - if those final few episodes is a downward spiral - i'd love to know which episodes she did like - cause those last few were exceptional

But to bring it back on point - the writer clearly thinks that the Boyd reveal was made up on the spot and not planned out
I personally don't have a problem with writers making it up because there is only so much of a show you could plan without a few problems getting in the way(forced storytelling due to cancellations, actors' availabilities, smaller budget etc etc)
But Boyd's arc really makes sense to me - it was a perfect reveal and didn't leave holes in the character's development

So i am just wondering - does anyone have any info on if it was planned out or it if was 'let's make this dude the villain cause we're getting cancelled'

there's the article BTW

And the niggling aspects have got to do with certain parts of Epitaph One that didn't have light shed on them in season 2

In Epitaph One when Paul & Echo break into the dollhouse, Echo seems to be pissed at Adelle - like she did something questionable which contributed to the Apocalypse - but in Epitaph 2 - they seem very close - even laughing and joking - i know the scene in question took place a few years before the E2 scene - but we just didn't get any confirmation on what lead to that conflict

Speaking of Echo and Paul - again in the same scene - it is implied that Echo and Paul aren't together and i think it is even implied that they barely speak - yet in Epitaph 2 - they are very close, maybe sleeping together - i know it tells us that Echo would not let Paul in so that is why they rarely spoke but something seems to indicated a big fight

And finally - in Epitaph One - it is implied that November survived long enough for the apocalypse to happen - i can't remember who said it but someone said you don't wanna end up like November - implying that she was tortured/Butchered or something worse - but she committed suicide as seen in 'The Hollow Men' - so is this just a big continuity error???

Sorry for the long post - just finished a re-watch so it was in my head

I've heard the same thing. I think it might've been on the blu-rays, but yeah, Joss essentially made Boyd the villain out of the blue. They wanted a surprise for the big bad of Rossum, and Boyd was chosen as the most shocking.

Also, the niggling aspects would have to do with the fact that they didn't know if they would get a second season, so a lot of stuff was written to be dramatic but with no real purpose in mind.

Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.

Well at least Boyd made sense - even if it was out of the blue - they really covered their backs with his development - if it was Topher or Adelle or even Paul - i just don't think it would have made a lick of sense

I guess the niggling aspects will just have to be continuity errors then :/ sigh

I love Pretty Little Liars so i can deal with plot holes
