Funny how people that didn't like the film would take the time to come on here and complain about it. You people do realize that most of the posters here DO like it? Understand that there are different perspectives. Surprising ignorance of artistic principals. IMDb is similar to an art museum. You don't go into the modern wing and complain about modern art.

That being said, I do realize that there is an underlying business agenda at work on this site. But I've been a member for years and it's a constant irritation, so blowing off steam.

There is a difference between an art museum and the IMDb. You wouldn't dress up, take a bus/taxi downtown, get in line and pay the entrance fee just to complain about the objects displayed in a museum. But IMDb can be reached quickly and comfortably on your home computer or smartphone, and the only entrance fee is your internet provider fee.

I didn't like this film at all. Now and then it's nice to get away from all the hollywood special effects and turn your brain on for some quality acting and deeper themes. But this film completely failed to be interesting. For me it was nothing more than a disappointment and a constant bore.

Well what did you think of GHOST DOG then? Very similar film.

As a Jarmusch fan I felt THE LIMITS OF CONTROL fit in very well with his other films. I think he feels that making films for himself will draw his appropriate audience. I feel that rock and roll is a vital element of Jarmusch's work. His films are not dissimilar to music videos. And I think his audience understands that.

I've felt cinema moving away from being art to becoming just a product. Distressing. I think Robert Altman addressed this in THE PLAYER a bit. This keeps the 'art house circuit' going. I can't say that I'm not uninfluenced by Peter Greenaway with this sentiment.

At the risk of unmarking film criticism in general I would just say that I find it puzzling for people to criticize films and art in general. For me I either like it or I don't, and I move on. Real art will find it audience. But what does the investor say? Will it sell? I guess the artists have to be ready for that. Sometimes I feel like critics are trying to convince themselves and are looking for reinforcement.

Often artists will imply concepts and leave room for interpretation. You have to bring something to the work yourself. Many don't want to have to think, just be entertained, or taught.

'How did you get in here?'

'I used my imagination'.

I guess I should be happy that people are interested enough in the form TO criticize it. And mostly artists like their feet held to the fire. One can become self indulgent and myopic over time. It keeps them on their toes.
