many people don't get it, as can be seen from the threads here. but this one is for someone with classic tastes. every single beat..... is on point. (as in point blank lol)
the filming, acting, structure, pacing, are all just right.
it's telling that more people don't 'get it'
------------- 'You are literally too stupid to insult.'
I agree with you 100%. For me, the music in the beginning defined the movie. When you watch and re-watch it, I find you pick up more and more subtleties than before. I don't find it pretentious like some do. I love Isaac de Bankolé and Bill Murray. What other actor of star status would come into a movie at the end, but Billy Murray!
Ltum, any other movies you could recommend like this? I wish this was based on a novel. At least you could read the story too. Anyhow, just a great movie. Thanks.
Probably movies like this one, existential in nature. I don't even know how I came across this one. But glad I did. I also love the American with George Clooney, although I'm not even close to being a fan of his. That movie and Michael Clayton are the only ones he's done, I like. I love war movies too. Did you catch the trailer for the upcoming Russian made "Stalingrad?" It's phenomenal.
but hey we are on the same page. michael clayton was a super fave of mine. i felt so deeply about that film. and i think clooney did a great job. american too, fine existential film.
my guess is you have prob seen terrence malick. if not, you are in for a treat. my faves are:
THE NEW WORLD DAYS OF HEAVEN TREE OF LIFE
a couple more titles with similar style to what i think you are looking for:
NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN THERE WILL BE BLOOD
two aussi faves of mine are
THE PROPOSITION (guy pearce) RABBIT PROOF FENCE
and try these:
THE SAINT OF FT WASHINGTON ALWAYS OUTNUMBERED MISTER JOHNSON
i also recommend LOVERS OF THE ARCTIC CIRCLE (los amantes del circulo polar)
ALL THE PRETTY HORSES is a fine western with existential overtones, very well done IMO directed by billy bob thornton and starring matt damon
a film i really like is AND NOW LADIES AND GENTLEMEN. it's nonlinear, an intriguing story, and beautifully shot in morocco and paris
you should definitely try BLOOD SIMPLE (the coens' first film. well made existential thriller)
(if i think of some more to add, i will post again later)
----------------------- What's this day of rest sh!t? What's this bulllSH!T? I don't f@ckin care. It don't matter to Jesus!
Thanks. I love Malick. Seen them all. I loved There will be blood. No Country freaked me out although I like Javier Bardem. Check out Dancer Upstairs, I found that really good. I did see the proposition, love Ray Winstone. I'll seek out your other recommendations. They look interesting. It's nice to find what other people like. You almost find a movie you'd never even think to watch. Thanks again!
rewatching this one tonight. got me wanting to think of some others to add to our list here. thing is, i'm sure you've likely seen anything i can name. i'm gonna go down my list to add a few names you may want to try:
CROUPIER clive owen THE BIG BLUE (le grande bleu, luc besson) REQUIEM FOR A DREAM WAKING THE DEAD
