Loved the first half hour

But then everything started going downhill when Tilda Swinton showed up, and I like her. After that it's insufferable monologue after insufferable monologue. I did appreciate the soundtrack, Bill Murray, and the atmosphere though, but the film just didn't work for me as a whole. Loved Dead Man and Broken Flowers so it hurts to say it. Who knows, maybe I'll give it another chance someday.

Definitely give it another chance. There's so much in the film to appreciate that it bears fruit with more than one watch. Try not to hear the characters' dialogue as monologues but connected as a conversation and/or philosophical commentary.

Why do you refuse to remember me?

reply

Me, too. And then I realized it was only half an hour. It felt twice as much. I love "Mistery train" and really like "Dead man" but I whish I gave up on this.

I would have to agree to everything you said. I don't have a problem with slow films (in fact I tend to prefer them), abstract films et cetera. This was insufferable though, except for a promising start (about up to and including the meeting with the violinman).

reply

Agreed. It is as if a drunk or simpleton version of Jarmusch wrote Swinton's dialogue. made the film unwatchable and I felt embarrassed for Jarmusch

if you expect a narrative film this won't be for you but if you are willing to go along for the ride, it's really rather good. I prefer Ghost Dog though.
