Do lefties still try to convince themselves that this movie is about "climate change" nonsense?

Its very obvious that this movie is about how stupid American society become as a whole. Democrats, Republicans and non-political people. Movie makes fun of them equally.

- Politicians only think about ratings and keeping power. Every single one of them.

- Peter Isherwell is composite image of all those rich innovators like Jobs, Bezos, Musk, Zuckerberg etc. Where he is so convinced that he knows how to do right things with his new machines.

- Peoples idiotic obsession with celebrities and who they date.

- Idiotic Hollywood obsessed with itself and their importance.

- Idiotic left wing morning shows. Where hosts are so trying to be funny and charming that they cant even process what smart people say to them.

- They way left wing press makes doctors/scientists Media Stars by hyping them and putting on covers. That im becile Fauci is the closest comparison. Remember how even Brad Pitt played him on SNL But unlike Fauci - Dr. Randall Mindy is actually smart.

- The way parents and children cant even talk with each other because of political views. Showed here when Kate Dibiasky returned home.

- How dumb people become with those idiotic tik-tok challenges and obsession with social media in general.

- Obsession with political correctness.

And in the end all those stupid people died because of their own dumbness.

It's about how stupid we are in the face of climate change.

Carbon crimes result in Comet strikes. Got it!

You can't possibly be this stupid.

reply

How stupid climate change hysteria is.

reply

Boy, you really didn't get the film, then. You see, in this film, the people warning of the threat were proven right, and everyone who stuck their head in the sand proven wrong.

reply

It's not about climate change, but if you're a liberal, I can see why you'd want it to be. It doesn't paint the left in a very favorable light. It's about how self obsession, pandering and entertainment news offering anything but news are making idiots out of the masses. It actually pokes at both sides, but it's much harder on the left than the right.

I don't see how it's harder on the left, when it's the "don't look up" crowd, the dumbest ones, which is based on the right. To put it plainly, the movie is about how people, but the right in particular, ignores scientists about a very pressing issue.

Don't bother trying to point out reality to these fools. The filmmaker, who also wrote the story and script, explicitly said the film is allegorical in respects to climate change.

"It's about how stupid we are in the face of climate change."
Climate change has always been around, but only the stupidest of the stupidest believe that we live in an actual "climate crisis" created by humans.

You mean like the actual scientists whose field of specialisation this is?

reply

Let me guess.. Are you going to try to claim that there is a 97% consensus next? :D

reply

More like 100%. There isn't a serious climatologist in the world who denies human involvement in the climate change of our time.

reply

There is a BIG difference in saying that human CO2 release can have a certain involvment on the climate, and go full retard and say that we are experiencing a "climate crisis" which renders us all doomed unless we all pay carbon taxes and drive EV`s. And the 97% consencus myth has been disproven again and again, only the most uninformed has not caught wind of that yet: https://www.forbes.com/sites/uhenergy/2016/12/14/fact-checking-the-97-consensus-on-anthropogenic-climate-change/?sh=6d784c3d1157

The only thing that matters in the scientific community is peer review. If it doesn't pass peer review, then it isn't part of the scientific community. There are plenty of "scientific" articles out there by "scientists" who claim to refute man made climate change, but these all have major problems and cannot be included in the body of accepted science. All peer reviewed science is in agreement, however.

reply

Hitting it right on the head there, you nailer you!

reply

Sure, it's a criticism of society in general, but it is also about climate change, and also the pandemic. The meteor is an analogy for that: threats we can do something about if we act fast enough, but we don't because we're greedy or prefer to stick our heads in the sand.

This sentence of yours is particularly telling, however:

They way left wing press makes doctors/scientists Media Stars by hyping them and putting on covers. That im becile Fauci is the closest comparison. Remember how even Brad Pitt played him on SNL But unlike Fauci - Dr. Randall Mindy is actually smart.

See, you recognise that Dr. Mindy is smart, and you also recognise that he is being propped up like Fauci has - but for some reason you don't recognise the obvious message here. Unlike your baseless claim, Fauci is smart, too. You not liking the treatments he prescribes does not change that fact. You thinking you know better than Fauci because you think you've educated yourself, also does not change that fact. This only makes you one of the people this movie makes fun of.

And in the end all those stupid people died because of their own dumbness.

You said it. People who thought the experts were imbeciles.

reply

You can tell overall, it's an effort to be an analogy for climate change.

But it's a deceitful attempt. They're taking something that is solid, and undoubtably THERE, and using it as a stand-in for something that's more ambiguous.

A comet is out there or it's not. If it's out there we can track it's speed and trajectory and use math to determine whether it's going to strike the earth. Pretty much the definition of settled science.

Climate Change isn't so clear-cut. How much is the climate changing? How much of it is normal climate change, and how much is due to man? How long do we have before it's too late? How much are one country's efforts in stopping it affected by other countries ignoring it? How much do the efforts to stop it affect our economy? How much has it been politicized and used for purposes other than the environment?

I've always found it fascinating that the Left promotes climate change as being an absolute fact while the Right questions it. At the same time, the proposed 'solutions' for climate change are things the Left have always wanted to implement. Government control over business, transfer of wealth from rich nations to poor nations, and limiting capitalism. I don't think that's a coincidence.

It's obvious the makers of this movie want people to think that Climate Change is as real as a comet headed for our planet. And that there are exact steps we can take right now to avoid it, and if we don't take those steps, we're just as stupid as if we ignored a comet headed for us.

Put simply, it's not that simple. But it's obvious people are falling for it.

reply

Climate Change isn't so clear-cut.

It actually is. And man either contributes significantly to climate change, or he does not. Scientists say he absolutely does. So it's just as much something which is there - but like the comet, most people don't actually see it - and they are perfectly capable of denying its existence, no matter how real it is.

At the same time, the proposed 'solutions' for climate change are things the Left have always wanted to implement. Government control over business, transfer of wealth from rich nations to poor nations, and limiting capitalism. I don't think that's a coincidence.

But this isn't remotely true. The proposed solutions have nothing to do with government control over business. And in any case, it's not the left that comes up with the solutions, but scientists. The only scientists who contradict them are scientists bought and paid for by companies with ties to the oil industry - that is no coincidence.

I know how the right likes to say that climate scientists are the ones who report on their findings in order to get funding, but that's not how it works. They get their funding regardless of findings. In fact, most of the time, the governments that fund them don't like their findings. This has certainly always been the case in the US, which has never had a government left of centre.

But even if the state provided more funding if scientists said "man made climate change is real", how would that work? The funding goes to research, not to the individual scientists.

"Hey, scientists - government, here. How would you like some more money for your research?"
"Great!"
"It has to be fake research, though."
"Huh?"
"Yeah, we have the conclusions ready for you."
"But we don't want to do fake research."
"But we'll fund the fake research."
"But it's still fake research."
"Yes, but if you give us the conclusions we tell you to give us, we'll give you even more money, so you can conduct even more fake research."

And this is where the scientists go "oh boy! More money for fake research!" - if we are to believe climate science deniers. It's a completely bonkers conspiracy theory that hasn't been thought through at all. But astonishingly, it is enough to ensure that large segments of the population have distrusted scientists for decades.

You're mentally deranged. Clearly this is an analogy to the existential doom coming because of climate change, but more specifically because of the refusal to look up and insistence on looking down of people like you.

reply

Why is climate change a "thing" for lefties but "nonsense" for rightys?

Are there any rightys here who believe climate change is a man made thing?
