The animal looked like an ostrich, which is not considered as dangerous. Beside I would not like to approach an open range austrich for several reasons, I can understand, that it is not considered as a real threat to some people. But important here is the info given by the rich guy, who says, that the oxygen level is much higher on that planet as on earth. People not used to this level of oxygen are feeling like on drugs, so it was not just that she was a moron, but a high moron.
