Why did they write Leo as hot?

I heard he agreed to the movie after changes to the script were made. Was this his stipulation? Tell people he's still hot as a portly middle aged man?

reply

I don't think he was written as hot. His character was actually an awkward, anxious, depressed low-level astronomer. He seemed to consider himself a bit of a failure. Women found him attractive because he's a good-looking guy, and in the story, gained minor celebrity status due to all the media attention surrounding him. He became a somewhat influential public figure, which many women like.

reply

He was considered the sexist man in the world after titanic by younger women.

I think he peaked in Romeo and Juliet.

reply

I'm not really sure how your reply logically follows my own. Are you maintaining your original position, or agreeing with anything I attempted to explain?

You say Leo "peaked" in Romeo and Juliet. That's fine. But considering that he could have passed for a teenage boy there, I get the impression that you must be young. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Just might help explain why you'd struggle to understand women finding a middle-aged man attractive.

reply

Leo had model looks in Romeo and Juliet, and he was 21, not a teen!

reply

I clearly stated that, in Romeo and Juliet, Leo could have passed for a teenage boy. While I am aware that he was actually 21 years old at the time, he nonetheless appeared on screen closer in age to 18 or 19. Until very recently, he's always looked a bit younger than his actual age, due to his boyish features.

reply

Your perception of reality was not reality. He was and looked 21. Models are generally around that age. End of discussion.

reply

You started a childish, bitter topic, then failed to defend or expand upon any of it. Can't blame you for wanting to end the discussion.

Have a good one, goober.

reply

It was a satire of media fame, the power of suggestion, and the manipulation of public perception. His character only became hot when he was too feeble to talk back and debate the tv hosts after the Jennifer Lawrence character screamed at them and stormed out. He became a “yes man” to the hosts and saved the light and airy mood of the show. Then the Cate Blanchett character flirts with him and that gives him more credibility with their stupid audience.

reply

^this.

He wasn't written as hot, he was written as someone that idiots found hot.

Personally I think he's a handsome cat, but in this movie I was itching to take a pair of shears to that stupid hair hanging haphazardly down his forehead.

reply

I had a bit of an issue with this too. And I'm not entirely buying that he's supposed to only have been seen as "hot" because of his position or that only dummies found him hot due to fame or whatever. I don't think it was supposed to be that deep. I think he was supposed to be a meek, yet charmingly attractive man who was getting more attention for his looks than for his message - except it didn't quite work because Leo looks like a very average dude. Yeah I know he's Leonardo Dicaprio one of the hottest stars in the world but realistically today he just looks like any guy you'd see at the grocery store.

reply

You missed the point. Leo wasnt hot. He was being objectified and seduced. But because this is usually gender flipped you didnt notice it.

reply

Maybe because your average dude doesnt look like Leo D?

reply

His looks are now average.

reply

I bet most women his age would disagree, lol

reply

YES! Fucking thank you!!!! I just posted a comment regarding this exact thing. It's ridiculous
