Theres no way the rest of the world is so incompetence in averting the crisis, China and Russia combine wont be too far off in space technology and also not forgetting that the EU could also collaborate with them to save the world. Its just ridiculous to think that the US is the only country able to do anything about it.

Working against comets would be a very tricky business. Due to their irregular shapes, they have a tendency to not follow predictable paths through space.
Its pretty clear how incompetent Russias military is and Chinas is even more corrupt. EU is so beurocractic that by the time they even agree on a plan for the deflection mission the comet has already hit.
