leo does it again

when i first saw this movie's trailer, i thought it looked like shit and i thought it was gonna be leo's first bad movie. turns out it ended up being one of his best ever. he's so good at picking scripts. this script was superbly written and was very clever. it was funny too. it was modern and absurdist but also depicted america in 2021 almost perfectly. i suspect the only reason it got less than an 8 is conservatives cried after watching it. i havent seen an intellectual comedy like this for a very long time.

reply

It was funny but "intellectual"?

Come On Man!!

reply

very smart,
dumb people need not apple

reply

I disagree. It was not funny. It was not intellectual. It was stupid. I give it * out of **********

reply

Nobody expects anything else from you.

reply

TROLL!

reply

That was obvious. Now don't do it again.

reply

I wouldn't call it one of Leo's best, but still a pleasant surprise. I had read some bad reviews before watching, so maybe my expectations were lowered, but agree that the script and acting were very good. Numerous laugh out loud moments mixed with effective tension and drama, ultimately packing a surprising emotional punch. I'd give it an 8/10.

reply

You seriously call this "intellectual"?

Bro... xD

reply

It's possible that intellectual is a relative thing. What feels intellectual for one person may not be for another.

I liked Leo's character, he was like an everyman who was put into an extraordinary situation, and it took a long time for him to reach the end of his patience and outburst like he did.

reply

Ah yes, like everything else these days is up to feelings I guess.
No seriously, what exactly is even remotely intellectual about this movie?

reply

what's intellectual about it is the absurd way in which they critique modern life but also managed to make it poignant. just because all you could see was goofy shit doesnt mean that's what it's really about.

reply

Where did I say that was all I could see?
I didn't say that.

Why do you feel the need to assume this?
Oh, so you have a point at all?
What does it say about you that you need to make assumptions about others to have an argument at all?

Go tell me more about intellectualism...

reply

because you acted incredulous like there isnt any in it. it could be that there isnt a lot but none? it's gotta be because you can't see it. tell me more about how stupid you are...

reply

You're the intellectual equivalent of a toddler, impressed by a clown who pulled a coin from behind your ear.

reply

tell me more about how stupid you are...

lol thanks for the help but that's not what i asked for. i didn't need help with a line for you.

reply

3 weeks, and this is what you came up with...
You should have just kept silent, it would have saved you a lot of embarrassment.

reply

seriously. only a loser like you would check this every day. i completely forgot about you until i wanted to discuss another thing i watched. stop embarrassing yourself.

reply

"stop embarrassing yourself."
Stop deflecting.

reply

deflecting what? you couldnt even understand what the movie was about and you cant stop crying. you're digging yourself deeper trying to hide this fact. do you like sit on this site waiting for a reply or something?

reply

Yeah I even hired 3 people who do around the clock shifts every day to alert me when you replied, because it isn't 2022 where electronic notifications are a thing, you fucking moron.

And why would you say I "did not even understand what the movie is about"?
Nothing I said warrants this absurd claim, especially not from someone who unironically calls this movie "intellectual". What is intellectual about "how they're criticizing modern life"? This is hilarious.

Why do you keep pretending this is some deep ass movie with some super ambiguous message but fail to explain it? Oh because you're stupid and easily impressed? Okay, figured.

As for "deflecting what"... man are you really that dumb?
I even quoted you... what more can a man do.

And what's this "crying" bullshit you're on about?
"I don't like what someone is saying, I just call it crying so I won't have to come up with an actual reply, that'll show him!"

You're some dumb ass motherfucker if I ever saw one.

reply

lol did you just write a book because you can't stop crying over what i've said? what a loser. getting so mad over this. you dont have any friends do you.

reply

lol look how you keep coming back to this because you have to have the last word despite having nothing to say lol what a loser lol look how you're not addressing anything I said because you know it's true and have no clue how to debunk it so you just drop some personal attacks lololol i bet that is because you're some basement incel lolol here do you want more gen-z insults? lolol

Jesus, listen to yourself!
You express yourself like a complete retard.
And since you've proven me right, it is time to put you on my ignore list.

reply

every time i want to discuss a movie. i drop by moviechat and see you there waiting for me like a good dog. so i chime in a little to make you feel worse about your pathetic life and move on again. see you next time buddy.

reply

This was a satire. What confounds modern audiences is that it doesn't make its targets obvious. It is not, however, intellectual. Sideways is an intellectual comedy.

reply

That movie is like from 100 years ago

reply

Are you for real? This was one of the most idiotic, heavy-handed pieces of garbage I've ever seen. This was not satire; it was propaganda for the climate change alarmists. I mean really? Are we to believe that anyone in their right mind is going to tell someone not to look at something that's right in front of their face? Climate change is debatable; a comet in the the sky is not. This was a stupid script and a stupid movie made by a stupid man.

reply

A consensus on climate change and its human cause exists. Multiple studies published in peer-reviewed scientific journals show that human activities are the primary cause of the observed climate-warming trend over the past century.

reply

But people don't want to hear truth and fact....

.... don't look up. Exactly as seen in this forum also

reply

"This was a stupid script and a stupid movie made by a stupid man."
yes , the irony is strong in this one

reply

Climate change is debatable; a comet in the the sky is not.

Sure it's debatable. It's about as debatable as climate change. A comet in the sky would be a verified fact, as is climate change - and both can be denied by people ignoring the evidence. People might still be saying "oh, it's going to miss us" up to the point of impact, because they prefer to believe snake oil salesmen rather than actual scientists.

reply

not really.

Depends what you mean by that.

Climate change? No shit, it has changed since the formation of Earth. Nothing new. Climate has changed 300 years ago, has changed 200 years ago, has changed 100 years ago and it's changing now.

Is it getting hotter? Yeah, by a degree every 50 years or century, right now. In the 60s we were told there will be an ice age. In the 80's we were told there will be no ice on earth and the oceans will rise covering most coastal cities by 2010. (I might exaggerate a bit)

In the first half of 20th century the temp barely bounced back to the levels that were prior to the little age. And compared with that the increase is not that much.

So, there is natural component to the climate change as well, and a human driven change. Problem is: we don't know exactly how important is our contribution to the present climate change.

It's not quite the same as seeing a comet flying to us. And will most likely will not affect (as to instantly kill) too many of the people alive today :D

But of course the movie is a metaphor.

The climate change you talk about happens over thousands, even millions of years. Not just decades, like we're seeing now. Since the mid-20th century, climate change has accelerated something brutal.

Is it getting hotter? Yeah, by a degree every 50 years or century, right now.

There's a big problem with that. Actually, two big problems. First, the increase is exponential, so it's not going to stay at 1 degree every 50 years. Second, solar activity has been in recession for some time now, meaning by all rights it ought to be getting cooler.

In the 60s we were told there will be an ice age. In the 80's we were told there will be no ice on earth and the oceans will rise covering most coastal cities by 2010. (I might exaggerate a bit)

Who are "they"? I can tell you it's not the climate scientists, because they've been pretty consistent. One thing climatologists have always been irritated over, however, is how journalists choose to represent them. Certainly none of them spoke of a new ice age in the '60s, because global warming has been a concern amongst them since the '50s. And to show you how "alarmist" climate scientists have been, here's a quote from John Sawyer in 1972:

"The increase of 25% CO2 expected by the end of the century therefore corresponds to an increase of 0.6 °C in the world temperature – an amount somewhat greater than the climatic variation of recent centuries."

In the first half of 20th century the temp barely bounced back to the levels that were prior to the little age. And compared with that the increase is not that much.

A lot has happened since the first half of the 20th century. More than a tripling of the human population, for one thing, with an explosion in the portion of people with access to one or more motor vehicles.

So, there is natural component to the climate change as well, and a human driven change. Problem is: we don't know exactly how important is our contribution to the present climate change.

There is scientific consensus that the human contribution is significant. Like I pointed out, if left to its own devices, the planet ought to be cooling right now - but it isn't.

It's not quite the same as seeing a comet flying to us. And will most likely will not affect (as to instantly kill) too many of the people alive today :D

In the movie, when you could actually see the comet it was already too late. For the most part of the movie, the comet could not be seen with the naked eye and people simply had to trust the scientists at their word. And we are approaching a similar moment in time in our age, as climate is starting to change perceptibly in the span of a single life time.

reply

i am for real and you're the idiotic one here. what i said had nothing to do with climate change nor what happened in the movie on the surface. it's like the dumber people are, the smarter they think they are.

Trump literally said as President: “What you’re seeing and what you’re reading is not what’s happening.”

You are right about one thing, though. No one in their right mind would say that. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who are not in their right mind.

This is why this film is an effective satire.
