Mars Attacks 2021

It's weird that this film reminds me so much of Mars Attacks, but not in a good way. In that film, Tim Burton poked fun at American society with the backdrop of an alien invasion. What we mocked in 1997, has come to pass today.

In the time period between 1997 and 2021, our culture has been dumbed down to the point where satire no longer works. Where do you start? Our fixation on celebrity culture, a media that no longer engages in serious debate, virtual enslavement to social media and our phones, our willingness to discard science, our celebration of ignorance and the poor quality of our political leaders. We even have CEOs of tech companies who have almost god like status.

I think it was a perfect piece of satire. Maybe at times a bit too much but still.

Yeah, it definitely reminds me of great political satires such as Dr. Strangelove and Mars Attacks and to a lesser extent Thank You For Smoking. Contact (if it were a comedy) comes to mind as well.

Reminded me of Idiocracy (2006)

reply

yeah, unfortunately that movie is now true.

reply

Idiocracy is more science fiction cause the dumb dumbs actually listened to the smartest person in the room. LOL!

Reminded me of Idiocracy and also Iron Sky.

reply

The problem is, for the last few years reality has been a satire of itself.
