If I had an outie that denied me my choices as a innie...

I would've probably commit suicide and take my outie along with me. Make me regret I live long enough for cutting the 4 fingers will affect that alter ego as well.

It's death either way.

If you commit suicide, you obviously die.

If your outie lets you resign, you still die since your innie memories cease to be.

The outies had more power than the series conveyed. Irv mentioned it to Burt as Burt resigned, but all the outies really had to do was hammer the point home that the innies' whole entire existence was tied to their jobs.

Yeah, outies did make the choice to create their innies while some were not subject to that effect since they work at the place as a higher up until hints, clues, and certain folks didn't get personality swapped got wind of the situation and started to rebel. Besides, their jobs look bleak enough that I don't it would require all that effort in the first place.

That's NOT how it works, even though the show tries very hard to make us believe that.

It's still just 'access to memories' that will 'die', not YOU. There is no personality that will die, there's no soul that will detach the physical body besides the one soul that was always there.

It's the same individual, the only thing that would happen is that you'd forget a lot of stuff. That's it. It would not affect who you are, what you are, how you talk, what you like, what you hate, your personality, your self.. you would still remain exactly as you are.

This show tries to make us believe you can just create a personality out of scratch, and that it's somehow DEATH if that personality ceases to be. However, it's not a personality, it's just YOU experiencing things in a different memory state - if that state will be erased, you still exist, so nothing and no one died.

reply

The separated memories creates a separate and different personality, and once those separate memories are gone, that different personality ceases to exist.

The whole 'outie' and 'innie' disagreeing on things is pretty stupid. No one would disagree with their own desires, they would align. Also, the 'outie' making 'innie's life hell would ONLY make the 'outie's life hell as well, because they're the SAME INDIVIDUAL, they're not different.

It's one thing to want to slip notes to the 'other side' for yourself to read afterwards, it's completely different to have a delayed video discussion with ourself, where you DISAGREE with yourself and even threaten yourself! So ludicrous, it's stupid.

The 'outie' would FEEL the panic and distress, and want to quit the whole project. Where's the female intuition now? She would feel after work that SOMETHING BAD is happening at work and she would be scared to go back and quit the whole thing and demand her memory is restored and so on.

She would NOT threaten herself on a damn video call... or at least she could explain the reasons and whatnots.

The more I think about it, the sillier the premise sounds, like some bad adaptation of some ridiculous old sci-fi writer concept, like 'Total Recall' (which was more energetic and entertaining, though).

BTW, why is there so much "SLOW PIANO" in this? Does every modern thing have to be dark, gloomy and have SLOW PIANO in it? Can't there ever be color and energy anywhere?
