Tron Reference!!!
No way, I can't believe of all movies this has a major reference to the original Tron. The whole scene where he jolts himself at the power substation is a reference to the scene near the end of Tron where Sark is struck down, then gets all the powers of the MCP. They play some similar sound effects and even the background music is similar to Tron's themes.
