SPOILER. Do not read if you’ve not seen 2:11

Superman reveals himself to the world. He sheds his Clark Kent identity. The first extrafamilial friend to whom he announces this is, quite fittingly, his oldest friend, Lana. I do not apologize that Superman has been my hero since I was little. I understand that many think that Superman is the real disguise and that Clark is the actual man, and I agree with that. Clark Kent is an estimable man, a man so strong that he can pretend to be week, and that’s hard to do. What this revelation portends for the Superman universe, I can’t imagine.

What I CAN imagine is how Lana must have felt when she saw her oldest friend, Clark, drop just eyeglasses and fly. With how many decades of memories and perceptions did that instant conflict? How many questions moiled in her mind? I admire the actress who plays this Lana. This was a tough scene to play, a scene where “everything you’ve always thought was wrong.” That is a TSUNAMI of emotion. If you have any kind of heart and love the Superman (Ubermensch) mythology, this moment must have moved you.

It was done ok. I love Superman but felt like the scene could've been done better. It was in a boring setting (some random dirt road vs say saving her at a climatic moment), she reacted poorly - rather than full on awe and admiration, instead, she was like "ok, I'm going to leave now because I'm going to pout b/c you should've told me sooner".

And most importantly I did not like his response to her logical question about fooling everyone. She asked a basic question that has always driven Superman fans (and non-fans alike) up the wall, how in the hell can no one tell Clark is Superman, especially in his home town? Paraphrasing here, she's like, "how did no one piece it together that you're Superman Clark?", and his lame response is, "People will see what they want to see." WHAT??? That's such a non-answer. They could've easily wrote it vaguely, like, my Kryptonian supercomputer theorizes that my biosignature may emits some type of masking which seems to only abate when I want to reveal my identity, or totally joke his way out of it, well these are spectacular glasses Lana!...just something other than what we got...

At this point, the secret identity nonsense is so ridiculous, the only reasonable approach is to simply ignore it. Which is on of the reasons the "big reveal" is such a bad idea, no matter what iteration of Superman it is. In this instance:

The only people stupider than Lana would have to be the kids, with Lois being a close second. The former: don't recognize THEIR FATHER, when he takes off his glasses and puts on a costume. The latter: you're a Pulitzer prize winning investigative reporter, and you don't recognize the guy you're dating, just because he takes off his glasses.

Really? REALLY?

Pffft.
