Ending?

So um, I just have to say that ending was the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. "Giving the baby back to it's mother" or something like that. LOL, WTF??

This movie wasn't all that bad, but I mean come on that is just such a weird ending, almost like she was doing it with her baby. Come on.

Think Oedipus. The baby just wanted to be with it's mother but in a Oedipal complex way. (If you don't know about Oedipus or don't understand an Oedipus complex, look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oedipus_complex and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oedipus)

I believe that film (especially independent horror film) needs to venture to the places of the dark and weird. Places that people don't necessarily want to visit, but on the other hand they want to go there to discover who and what they are made of.

By choosing to do this ending the way that it was done, I wanted to add a dynamic to the baby's character (and of Laura's) that a much bigger Hollywood film would have avoided at all costs. It's controversial and wierd and dark and twisted, but is also telling of where both the characters were and are. Laura wants her baby back as much as the baby wants to be with her (no pun intended there). Laura only realizes that she must re-accept the baby in order to rest it's soul.

Just as Laura's mother says when she returns from the asylum, "He just wanted to be with his mother."

Thanks and I hope you enjoyed my very small independent project.

The baby noises were unnecessary during that part. Perhaps Jack should have become conscious then.

Lions Gate shouldn't have marketed this as a Zombie movie.

I enjoyed the movie very much. The pacing was perfect with little filler yet without the feeling of being rushed. The ending flowed naturally from the theme of the story and, frankly, I can't think of a more appropriate conclusion which would tie everything together.

I hope you develop a new project soon with new twists on old themes.

Thanks for the Entertainment

Thanks Gary,

I'm glad you liked it. Going into the shoot it would just as easy for her to find an ancient book and read it to the spirit in a big windy, magical FX scene, but not only did we have no budget for it, I think this ending wraps it up for all the characters and explains a little bit more about where the spirit is though out the film. I think by the end you really have a sense of how the child's emotion and feelings progress as you watch it.

And maybe the baby noises were too much, but maybe they were just that cherry on top of an extremely twisted film experience.

We need more truly weird plot lines in movies. I have to be honest, at first I was reluctant to bother with this film. After the first 10 minutes I was ready to stop watching, but then Erin Wilk came on screen. I must say she was a pleasant surprise. Not just that she's nice to look at, but she did a legitimately great job with the acting. In fact the acting was pretty good across the board, which is a surprise in independent horror. I also actually legitimately laughed with the scene in Laura's living room when Chris Ferry pretended to be taken over by her son. That was great! Not to mention the scene where she catches him mugging at himself in the mirror (Supercop!). Those two actors stood out for me the most. Basically the weird plot, the smooth pace, good acting (Go Erin!) and the wacky ending really made this a little independent horror gem. Good job!

Actually, some of Chris Ferry's (the actor who played Deputy Greer) funniest stuff actually had to be cut because it was too funny and didn't really fit with the rest of the film. I miss it sort of but it works better with the tone for him be not quite so insane. If you like him though, you should check out a movie called The Fittest which he is also in. He plays a really funny sort of hick character which is hilarious.

Also, there's an interview with me and Erin Wilk at horrorjunk.net that is pretty interesting as well.

Glad you enjoyed,

This is one of the worst installments of "the living dead" type films. The acting, sound, and special effects of the film. Worse than that was the plot and overall story behind the movies. It was just stupid and I wish Lionsgate would stop greenlightin these stinkers. Lots of butt shots though; and with a chick that had a fairly nice one too. That is a rarity in these low budget films these days.

Hi FCA1975,

I don't want to get involved in some sort of flaming thing over my own film so I guess I won't.

But what I did want to say is I don't know if you read anything about the film online anywhere or anything, but this is not an installment of "the living dead" type films, nor was it ever intended to be seen in that way. We independently produced the film, under the name Tantrum, and then it was sold to Lions Gate and renamed. People make this mistake all the time but if you had read the trivia about the film in imdb or listened to the podcast interview over at HorrorJunk.net then maybe you would understand a little bit more about this particular 'stinker'.

This is a film that I hoped would bring something new to the possession film. I wanted to do something new with the climax of the picture and actually try to give the ghost/killer/villain of the film a different dynamic and an especially sickening flavor. Maybe it worked, maybe it didn't but I stand by it as my work either way.

When a film is independently produced for under twenty thousand dollars, of course there will be areas that suffer. I just wish that people could stop looking at the bad things and look at the good things in independent cinema, even when bought and released by a huge Hollywood distributor such as Lions Gate.

I'm really glad I gave this film a chance despite what some people were saying about it. Most got too hung up with thinking it was a zombie film, that they failed to see past it. Where did people get that idea anyway, just because "dead" was in the title?
Anyway, while the ending *was* a bit surprising, it was one of those that was hard to look away from. Completing the cycle, letting the baby take root in her again.
For it not being on some huge scale budget, I thought it was really well done, the lead actress was very good- I hope to see more.

P.s.
Maybe i missed it, but was the reason the baby was taken from the first set of foster parents because they were abusing him, or...?

Well, if the dead is really rising, then why are we only seeing them as they possess people? That makes no sense. I did not expect it to be like the Night of the Living Dead type films. I did have at least a small expectation that it might due to the title "Rise Of the Dead".

yeah, they just kept showin' ass in this movie. i mean that one woman who takes a shower shows her ass, and the laura character shows a little ass crack as she gets up after hitting the possesed cop on the head with a flashlight. and the woman who takes a shower right before she gets in the shower shows the top of her ass crack in underwear. and the laura character shows her ass in pajamas as she bends down as her mom goes after her and she shows her ass in tight pants as she bends down in the cafe. the laura character has an amazing ass! yeah, thank you directer for the many ass shots in this movie!

If nothing else, I really appreciate that you were willing to come on here and talk about your movie. That takes a lot of guts, and a lot of people would no doubt rather appear anonymously than take it like a man. Personally, I did not like the movie. But I didn't like it because I felt as though I was misled. I was expecting an undead movie, a zombie movie, not a possession movie. And so I was very disappointed, because I like the former genre. It was as if I never really got a chance to enjoy it because my expectations were wrong. Anyway, keep up your work. I look forward to the next chapter.

Dude, settle down...and try to understand his point next time...he referenced a page on the web so that people like you could do a bit of correlation. Just about everyone of average intelligence should already know about Oedipus.

I think it’s odd that that the God fearing wife of an evangelist would put a curse on the adopted baby when it was taken from her. Cursing a baby is something a witch would do.

‘Tantrum’ would have been a better title.

I fail to see the Oedipus connection with this film. I was sure that Laura initiated the sex while her boyfriend was possessed with her son.

Too bad Cade turned homicidal when possessing a person. He missed the opportunity to communicate with others and explain his thoughts and feelings. This movie was just another senseless slasher film.

I felt bad for the boyfriend, Jack, at the end!

Imagine being trapped in a relationship with a now 'whacked-out' girlfriend and a possibly psychotic baby!

OMG! (it's not what you think)
