I finally saw this movie with an open mind and I must say that I've never been so fooled by a movie as this one. What was this flick really about? Just to milk the cow and make money out of the Hannah franchise? It seemed like it, cause there wasn't really much of a story to tell and a actual message to convey.
Just to think about it: The tagline is "She's always had the best of both worlds. Now she has to choose just one". The film seemed to be about trying to make Miley re-connect with her Southern roots and that making her choose between her and Hannah (which is pretty much what happens in the end). But just as Miley seem to have decided which path to choose, she's still forced to be Hannah. And why? Just because to please her fans. As Vanessa Williams' character states the fact to the British journalist; "Hannah is all about dreams, do you wanna destroy your daughters dreams" or something like that. Wasn't this movie trying to convey the message of being true to your roots, to yourself and your family/friends? So why does it suddenly changes it message to the end?
And last, but not least: What kind of message is that to convey to children? That a celebrity is forced to live for their fans and not allowed to choose her/his own path? That hypocrisy is good? That is okay to lie and hide the truth about who you really are? Those are the most stupidest messages that I've ever seen.
^ You forgot the bit where someone says Hannah is apart of you, you can't let her go or something like that. You make valid points, but the movies message still comes through just that shes both Hannah and Miley at the same time. She just needs to remember shes "a good southern girl", and that in itself is a stupid message anyway.
Thanks. Your point is valid as well. Sure, she was Hannah Montana, but after all; Wasn't the tagline "She always had the best of both worlds, now she has to choose just one?" Sure, she could still be Hannah while being more true to her roots, but I guess that wouldn't last for long if she stayed as Hannah and not being herself in Tennessee. However; The story was still forcing her to choose between being herself and Hannah and everything were leading up to the part where she had to choose - especially after singing "The Climb", since it was about everything she had learned in Tennessee. After all, she also stated that she was tired of living a double life.
The message about "remembering who you are while being an other person" isn't stupid in itself, but the way the movie conveyed the message was really stupid. Usually a story or a movie's purpose is to develop characters and take them along a journey to make them different persons, but this wasn't the case with this movie. The movie fooled the audience to believe that Miley was gonna change and that being true to yourself, until it suddenly changed the theme during the last minutes, which were clearly stated by Vita.
The portrayed in the movie is the same message that has been portrayed since the beginning of Hannah Montana. She chooses to live a double life in order to have a normal life but still be able to make music for her fans. It's never supposed to be considered lying, she just wants to be able to not be stalked by the paparazzi and be able to live a normal childhood/teenage years. If you're a fan of the show, you should realize this and not try to pick at the movie for her "lying" to her fans.
Also, there are pleanty of messages throughout the movie, as there are throughout each episode of the show Hannah Montana. Imagine this movie as one long show, that has a bigger budget. All of the fame and money were getting to Hannah, so her dad decided to bring her back home to Tennessee to remember who she really is. After spending weeks back in Tennessee she forgot her life as Hannah Montana and fell in love with the life she had in Tennessee, but once she was to perform again as Hannah, she realized how much she loved it also - thus the choosing just one. She was sick of living a lie, but was torn because she doesn't want to quit singing, but also is worried about losing her privacy.
As for the tagline for the Hannah Montana Movie, as you put it "She always had the best of both worlds, now she has to choose just one?" Would you prefer if it would have said "she's always had the best of both worlds, now she has to choose just one, but its ok becasue her hometown will keep her secret, so she'll be able to still live a double life." The tagline of the movie is just that.. a tagline to a movie. It is supposed to draw in a crowd - as it did for you. If it gave more detail about what her decision would really be, then it would no longer be a tagline, but a spoiler.
Also you say that movies are supposed to take characters on a journey, this would be the character arc, and Miley goes through a very obvious character arc. In the end of the movie, she performs a song called "The Climb." If you listen to these lyrics verses the lyrics of other songs off the record such as "The Good Life," you'll see a difference in subject matter that goes from bragging about all of the expensive things Hannah gets to buy to The Climb which talks about overcoming struggles, uphill battles, and talking about how its not about "how fast [she] gets there, or what's waiting on the other side, its the climb." The Soundtrack even has a character arc.
At the end of the movie, Miley even says she loves being Hannah, but she doesn't want to lie anymore. That is why everyone is so willing to keep her secret, so she can be the dream of every little girl.
She chose Hannha. But she is a new person after what she went through in Tennessee. Her decision she had to make stemmed from the car ride with her dad when he told her that if she didn't change how she was acting she would then have to choose. But alas! She changed how she was acting.
Instead of giving my answer, I'll quote what ferrib1-1 wrote - which reflects my opinion:
ferrisb1-1 (Mon Aug 10 2009 17:54:12) Ignore this User | Report Abuse -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "The problem I had with the movie (from an adult, analytical POV) is that it had no clear theme driving any of the characters, or actions.
I think if it had a more focused theme it would have been a better movie. Not great, but not so ambiguous as it currently stands.
A theme is a thesis statement e.g. Sometimes people create personas to help them deal with life, but there comes a time when those personas are no longer needed.
I *think* this is what the theme of HM:TM is (was)... Except nothing changed in the end. She stayed Hannah Montana! WTF?!
This is the exact opposite of a character arc.
Yes, she learned to be a nicer person so-to-speak, but her real internal struggle was coming to the realization she did not need HM anymore. She could just be Miley Stewart, and let the chips fall where they may after that. But this did not happen.
I know the real world reason was money (Disney wanted one more season of HM). But from a strictly storytelling POV, she should have walked off the stage as Miley Stewart and this would have made "The Climb" resonate a lot more than it did e.g. it is the journey and not the destination since "Hannah" represents the ultimate destination (money, fame, etc)."
Your comment doesn't make sense at all. No offence.

True, but Miley said in interviews that the movie was about her character choosing one of the two worlds. So it isn't just the tagline who's lying, but Miley herself.
Just because he understands just how much a liar you are doesn't make him the same person.
If you would bother to check, you'd see that posting style alone is completely unique - you can't fake that, no matter how much you try. And boy have you tried.

Actually a couple do live in Norway but come over for holidays. Go hunt them down.
Oh wait, you can't. Just like you can't do with me. You really think from a forum post you can find one black man amongst over a million people? Hell, you don't even know if I really live in the UK.

They cannot be that wonderful if they brought you up to say things to people about how you want to kill them.
Can't be good parents. Or perhaps... Perhaps they are good people - and you actually despise them, so you want them to be ashamed of you and your actions.

Murder me? With what, the power of your words? Mind bullets? As I've told you, even if you did track me down - you would have no way of coming within 20ft of me.
Your apology was sarcastic and mocking. You hate that I worked this out so easily and you hate me for it.

its a film...its fluff...that's the point...did you actually expect hannah to utter rosebud at the end?
Usually, a movie is supposed to tell an audience a coherent story, telling a moral or at least have a valid point. This movie didn't have it and that was I was pointing out.
