These boxoffice threads are part of the cancer of this site. Who cares if a movie flopped or not?
again, it depends on the movie and budget.
the studios care if the movie flopped. the divergent series was cancelled cause the last movie flopped.
In principle I agree that box office performance is not a measure of how 'good' the movie is, as I like some things that a lot of other viewers don't like, and vice versa. But there is a practical consideration.... If it flopped, then it's unlikely that the studio would greenlight any sequels. That's not a big deal if it's a standalone movie. But if it was something that was meant to start a series, then it's a letdown because we won't be getting the rest of the story anytime soon.
