why did they call this a 'new' show?

TECHNICALLY yes but it was only two episodes and was NOT intended as a specific series. The so called first season is comprised of these 2 episodes.

Because the first 2 wpisodes were NOT a continued series but a 2 issue special promotions that if successful was going to become a series which it did with the revamp to the style (now includes some SURVIVORS of quote unquote obvious death segments such as a man slammed by a car which flip up and onto him which most would think would even up in his death but didn't) and new narrator.

So while some will say the two specials was the original episodes of this new episodes considered to be a "first season", the producers are classifying those two episodes as specials and the third episode with the revamp to be the beginning of the series
