BBC show this film in 16:9 throughout, rather than 2.35:1 throughout as I saw it in the cinema (not in IMAX), and no UK channel is going to show a film that switches ratios (unless it's expceted like Great Budapest Hotel), so does that mean the BBC's version is mostly cropped?

so does that mean the BBC's version is mostly cropped?It does. Most of the movie is 2.35:1 (2.40:1?), with the larger IMAX format (1.78:1) used for select scenes. Off the top of my head, those include Sam's entry onto the grid (the massive recognizer shot) and CLU making hits big speech in front of the masses. Most likely Sam's time in the games, too. Now that I think about it, probably the flight sequence in the lightfighter, as well.
