Haunting my A$$

You can practically remove the horror aspect of this season and the outcome would still be the same..

reply

I think they did remove the horror from this season. It was nothing like the first one.

reply

They should have called it "the Bly Chronicles"

reply

It was VERY boring with all those "We ArE StUcK iN A MeMorY" BS... I stopped watching at chapter 7

^^^While I agree in wasnt as scary as Hill House and There wasnt as MUCH horror

I do not agree They removed all or most of the horror...

Episodes 4 through 9 were on par with Hill House for Horror/scares

Episodes 1,2 and 3 were quite slow, and I found myself thinking "wow, This doesnt seem like a Horror/ghost series"....I was highly considering Mike Flanagan Missed the mark and made the mistake of trying to make the series to dramatic/Deep....But Then Episodes 4 through 9 Hit and IMO were Incredible

Basically though the only thing that was remotely scary or had the ghost feel to it in the first 3 episodes were Dani's visions when she looked in the mirror and saw her BF with The Glasses....Had that not been there in the first few episodes, It truly wouldnt have felt at all like a horror/ghost series in the early episodes

after completing the series though, I no longer feel There was anything wrong with the first 3 episodes, I dont deny they are slow,But I feel after completing the series, I understand why they were slow and It really helped Pay off The Last half of the series

overall I LOVED it

But the manor literally was haunted.

It may not have been "horror", but they certainly delivered on the promise.

reply

If this was season 1 then yes it would have delivered on the promise of a haunted house. However, the first season set a precedent by being a horror show. So yes technically Bly Manor was haunted but not in the way that most fans of the first season were hoping.

Imagine if Friday the 13th part 78 comes out and it's the story of teenagers who go to camp crystal lake on a Friday the 13th and enjoy a weekend of fun and self discovery. Sure the title of Friday the 13th would technically be accurate. But at the same time it really wouldn't be accurate at all and fans of the series would be understandably disappointed.

reply

You've got me there...

Though my point was that the "haunting" felt more like an underdeveloped "story thread" than plot...

reply

Haunting fits perfectly well, because that was exactly what we got, a HAUNTED house.
No one promised you nail biting horror, and even if, most people constantly complaining about "ppff, not scary!" are the same that put tons of hot sauce on their food to impress everyone pretending "it's not hot at all!".
We get it, you're tough guys who aren't scared and it's great.

Doesn't change the fact that this is still a story about a haunted house.

reply

"No one promised you nail biting horror"

It's true that they didn't promise it. But when you make a sequel to a horror tv show it is strongly implied that it will also be a horror tv show. The horror elements are what made Hill House so popular and memorable.

reply

And season 2 follows the exact same formula, it is just toned down and it would be asinine to not call this a horror series just because it isn't as scary as the first one, or now focuses on a love story in the last few episodes.
Until the end, we had tons of ghosts and the same "what the Hell is going on?" mystery as we had in season 2.

Think what you want, but the "hurr durr no horror at all" cries are just hyperbole.

The ghosts of Bly manor are like extras, minding their business in the background..

"No one promised you nail biting horror, and even if, most people constantly complaining about "ppff, not scary!" are the same that put tons of hot sauce on their food to impress everyone pretending "it's not hot at all!"."

That is not true. What people are saying is that they did find season 1 scary. They are not too cool to admit that. Almost everyone who has seen both seasons agrees that season 2 is dramatically toned down from a horror stand point. Fans of the first season have every right to be disappointed about that. The horror element of season 1 is what made it so popular.

Maybe read what I said again...

Thank you..

This was a soap opera disguised as a horror show. What was even the point of some of the subplots, like the mom having an affair with the brother?

reply

Perfect example for people bitching about things they didn't even understand because they did not pay attention.

reply

"things they didn't even understand" like it was some high-concept Ingmar Bergman production lmao. This show was supposed to be a no-brainer entertainer and it even failed at that. You're not smart for 'getting it', you're dumb for watching it. And I count myself among those who lost IQ points watching this drivel.

reply

""things they didn't even understand" like it was some high-concept Ingmar Bergman production lmao."

This is EXACTLY right - and yet you missed the WHOLE POINT of the affair between the brother and the mother.
Ironically, you're now loudly calling everyone stupid acting all above it, still not realizing that you're the issue here.

This board is incredible, there is no shortage of idiots like you.
Welcome to my ignore list. No point in wasting more time on you.
