But then why could Dani, after she let in Viola?
because the haunting was Viola's creation and it was lifted from Bly when she possessed Dani since Viola was no longer bound to the chest in the lake. Peter and everybody else who had died were caught up in Viola's gravity thus couldnt escape. also Peter did not use the correct type of possession on Rebecca while she was still alive because he didnt know of it yet
