Good but some parts near the end weren't satisfying
Korean TV and Movies are simply amazing. I have watched a few now from The Train to Busan, Kingdom, The Man From Nowhere, Oldboy to name a few and they have all been great.
The acting is excellent in every single one and the tension and drama are really well done.
Everyone really does a great job imo.
Squid Game has a very cool concept - a la the Japanese Battle Royale (and its Hollywood copy Hunger Games) and takes people by surprise.
The whole tribal behavior of humans is well exemplified from the ups and down. Overall I'd rate Squid Game an 8/10. A lot of things were done well from it having a history to the games to the ending to the Police infiltrator to the organ harvesting side business setup etc.
Here's a few pluses and minuses I felt were in the Squid game -
+ great acting
+ great concept and well executed
+ memorable things from the show from the toy girl killer robot
+ the whole mysterious island with face masks
+ directing was tight and not many bad/filler content fluff
Some minuses
- casual racism against the Pakistani immigrant to the end showing the VIPs all being casually stereotyped as debauch individuals devoid of morals while the main Korean baddie was somehow redeeming
- the main baddie escaping death conveniently throughout the show
- the main baddie reveal also makes little sense
- the cop easily evades everyone there for a long while despite the entire well oiled machine, esp near end with the gay old man, how did the cop run away from there post that incident?
- the non-dramatic climax with the 2 people we all knew would survive, surviving and the predictable sacrifice
- the face mask reveal of the right hand man baddie to the cop
- the sugar candy had clear cheating with the lighter yet no one catches them?? The guard right next to them didn't care oddly?
- the marble game had convenient agreeing of rule change when the dude was winning makes no sense
- they talked about equality constantly yet at the glass walk game when the dude used his skills to walk on glass, they changed the game conditions. That makes it inherently unfair and wrong
- the main people were kept alive constantly to keep the plot flowing for the sake of it rather than the other way around. Game of Thrones was better her in that, like reality, no one is really safe. That bad guy Deok-Suk lived on till glass game was bad
- the North Korean girl getting a break with the other Korean girl giving up her life for her was silly to the end where she got glass shot into her which was odd how it was given they needlessly did a glass blow up there making no sense and the glass pierces her from the front despite her back being turned to the glass. This part was again forced to get her out
- the red triangle guy who presses a button to somehow erase the video footage was idiotic. A button that just does that? Wut?
- There's a bunch of rich VIPs who have bet and funded the game but show up with 0 security themselves? Didn't make sense. Anyone could've taken them out easily. Esp if you don't know their identity.
Overall however, this show is meant for entertainment and it delivered solidly on it.
