Lisa P: a brilliant comic creation

I loved the whole movie: the script, the acting....all of it.

But why does Lisa P stand out? Lisa is a hot babe who is on the verge of knowing how her hotness wields power. But, likely due to her Catholicism, she knows that pushing her hotness would be "a sin." This is tempered in that she is thoughtful enough to worry about her father, and she goes out with James. So, rather than being a cartoon, she is given depth, and this makes her interesting and harder to dismiss. Kudos to Margarita Levieva for her very fine portrayal: well-balanced and true.

The best scenes? When James asks Lisa if she likes the wine....and she sniffs the side of the glass. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! And then, when she and James are arguing about who-is-responsible-the-guy-or-the-girl?, she ends the conversation (she senses she can't win) by going "WHOA!" and then runs off to dance. It's bizare!!!

when she sniffs the side of the glass is a classic scene,
if you stopped to put some deeper background to it, her character probally saw someone do that once or actually thought they were sniffing the glass instead of the wine and she didn't bother to think it through....

it is a great character, she is always dancing, not caring who is watching,
she works the big ride, but doesn't even know what some of the controls do, (she just lets him press one and it breaks the ride!)

She kind of "polishes" the top of the car ride in one scene, but instructs the other kid to clean up the vomit.
She "knows" she is Lisa P
There are many more great parts she has too.

and her wardrobe is quite impressive.

Lisa P is a babe. I can't believe that a guy like James won't go for the hot but virginal Catholic girl rather than Em who had been banging a married man over the summer.

His character was shy, and unsure of a lot of things.
That is why a lot of people, me included, identified with him and loved this movie so much. I am sure many of us wish we had been more assertive at that age.
hindsight 20/20.....

When I see the James character act like that, it makes me want to vomit.

Well what use are MY brains if I'm tied up with a dumb clunk like you!

I think that's why I disliked this movie. I think I've met so many guys like James that it irks me when I watch the shy awkwardness.

Plus she, practically alone in the movie, actually seemed like she was from 1987.

I actually thought for a millisecond that she actually knew about wine and that the very feint smell coming from the glass was a much more accurate annalist of the wine.

Then I just realised she has no clue and she's just being stupid.
