I usually never so this but this movie deserves it. I saw it back when it came out and I hated it. I recently saw Google promoting it as a similar movie to Superbad and all those feelings that I had when I had first saw it erupted again. Not funny at all. Everyone was unlikable. It was marketed as a comedy. F this movie.
It was marketed as a comedy which strictly speaking it isn't. I really enjoyed it as I just took it for what it was.
I rarely listen to such recommendations about movies from others, they often steer you wrong.
Personally I get a brief idea of the story and concept, and if it appeals to me I watch it. I try and avoid reviews as you often get spoilers.
The worst type of recommendation are the ones that tell you it is the best/funniest/goriest etc movie ever made. A movie will never live up to that sort of hype and you will certainly be disappointed.
Its definitely not a comedy and I also remember it being marketed as such. I get that Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig are comedic actors but they were barely used which seems like a strange casting choice. To me its more of a coming of age drama movie in a similar mould to The Perks of being a Wallflower.
I laughed a lot for it supposedly being "definitely not a comedy". ("Are you drinking drugs?") It's not a wall-to-wall wacky comedy, but I think it definitely qualifies as a comedy, or a "dramedy" at least.
