This could of happened to me..
I was a 14 year in 1995 when the internet was just becoming "the new thing" and popular. I was using AOL/AIM, IRC, and ICQ. I met over 50 people online before the age of 18. I put myself in many many compromising situations that could of ended in rape, being murdered, injured, kidnapped, etc. The worst that happened to me was a gang of kids beat me up (under the guise of a guy being interested in me and wanting to meet me, but he brought his gf and friends to beat the *beep* out of me), and in several instances I was fondled inappropriately, as they asked for more, I told them next time (when we never would meet again). I also answered an ad for a babysitting position when I was 16, I met the parents and young boy about 3, and the parents explained to me that they were looking for a young girl to join them in bed as well as babysit. I stayed calm and collected the rest of the day, telling them I'd think about it, as we went to an amusement park with the little boy, and they finally took me home.
I have many many stories to tell, and I have considered writing a book to explain the types of people I met before the age of 18 so that parents are aware what children are capable of.
I was, and still am the following:
*a non-drug user - even marijuana
*a Christian
*was a virgin until my marriage to my husband at age 19
*honestly a good girl, who was not looking for trouble - my only "sin" was looking for affirmation from people, and unfortunately that's the very thing young women (or women at all) are looking for online today.
I'm a lucky girl, I got out of all those situations safely.
STAY SAFE OUT THERE! Meet in groups, meet in public or don't meet at all!
