I was nearly fired from my job because of this movie....

I'll begin with saying that the final 22 minutes triggered something deep in my psyche. The first hour of the movie is laughable, and only becomes interesting when we see "Josh" lurking behind the bushes, watching Megan's friend. Now, I normally have no problems watching horror movies. I have loved watching them since I was a child with my parents, and then by myself as I got older. The final 22 minutes of Megan is Missing are forever etched into my memory. As others have stated on here, what's seen and heard on screen is frightening because it's something that is very real; something that has happened to many people in real life.

To make a long story short, I watched this late at night with a couple friends in my friend's basement. I had to be at work early the next day. I could not sleep at all when I got home from my friend's, as all I could think about was those poor girls and how they got to spend their final hours of their lives.

Because of my lack of sleep, and the fact that I couldn't get the movie out of my head while I was working, my performance suffered greatly. It was so bad, that my boss actually took me into his office and proceeded to tell me that my performance was so poor that he thought my presence there was no longer required that day. I eventually talked him out of sending me home.

It just goes to show how much this movie left an impression on me. It's terrifying to think this is how many people spend the last moments of their lives.

You should watch Strangeland. Great Dee Snider internet based movie with captain howdy, missing girls, and murder

You're kidding right? Strangeland was freaking awful and wasn't disturbing in the slightest. Ugh I feel like I need a shower since you mentioned it.

Strangeland is a horrible movie lmao

reply

Yay, a Strangeland fan! It may not be some epically awesomely made film, but it's pretty groovy. Dee Snider is great and Strangeland is a million times better than Megan is Missing.

reply

What a charming and pleasant man you are! :-)

reply

lol This film wasn't that well made but the thought about what happened at the end really haunted me too. Really, really disturbing!

reply

Because its based on true stories

The last part was very well made. Except for the part where Josh is digging to bury the barrel - I thought that could have been trimmed down. I guess it's horrible because that last part of the film is based on several true cases of internet predators and what has been done to children.

You are an idiot. Way to be "the hardcore guy" I would say I would wish something like this on you but that would be wrong.

This movie is messed up and bothered me too and I have watched every extreme film there is. Only the novel of The Girl Next Door upset me more then that (I'm sure you laughed hysterically through out that). For some reason her and her Teddy Bear just messed me up. One of the few films I wished I hadn't watched. Crap like AU and S&nd Man are nothing to this film IMO.

oh oh oh, great idea.

If fictional characters from this movie screwed with OPs mind that badly, then he/she should definitely watch The Girl Next Door. Fantastic movie, its just.... butterflies and kittens the entire movie.

The movie was ugly for sure, the book even worse. I love Jack Ketchum but that was almost to much even for me. I just can't stand to see/read about young girls getting abused.

Have you seen or read the Lost? Good stuff my favorite book of his.

I understand where you coming from. Glad to hear you're not the only one disturbed by that movie. Seed 2006 is another movie which I found disturbing especially the hammer scene. So shocking indeed.

reply

Laughable ending. Complete caricature of what kidnap/torture victims actually go through.

Just saw the film--there was nothing laughable about the ending. Especially since I saw a 48 Hours episode about a real-life case where a young girl ran away from home to be with this guy she'd been chatting with online for weeks---she was only 13.
Sadly, here's what happened to her:
