At some point, was this originally supposed to be a Sinister Six movie? (spoilers)

It felt like a perfect set-up to bring together the Sinister Six with Doctor Octopus, Sandman, Lizard, Electro and Green Goblin, along with the MCU's Vulture. Perhaps have Spider-Man team-up with Venom to defeat them while Doctor Strange holds the Multiverse together.

Instead, we get this odd movie where there are multiple Spider-Men and MCU Peter doesn't have any emotional connection with the villains, to the extent that the film kills off May in order to create a central antagonist for him to fight at the end. We also have Venom relegated to a bizarre minor cameo - despite teasing a confrontation in 'Venom: Let There Be Carnage' - just to set up a second Venom in the MCU. Meanwhile, Vulture gets sucked into 'Morbius'.

Combined with the patchy, distracting COVID-impacted special effects, 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' just felt kind of haphazard to me. I wonder what the original pitch for this film looked like.

I think so. They were supposed to make a Sinister Six movie once before and they botched that too. I think they once again delayed it, hoping for that uber payday. But I think they squandered the opportunity. The next one. No, not this one, the next one. No, not this one, the next one. No no no. Do it or F off. You can only tease so much. I get it. They need to prop up their Sony end of the campaign which just keeps circling the drain. The problem is I totally blew my wad with No Way Home. I don't want to see another super villain mashup for at least ten years. I don't want to see the same crap over and over and over again. It was then or never.
