The action was weak, but the world building was interesting
This was a big step down in turns of the action choreography (maybe due to the aging of the lead actors), but I thought it added a lot of interesting wrinkles to the science-fiction mythology of the series.
It's the first time I've actually been interested in the relationship between the machine world and Zion, whereas those were my least favourite things in the original trilogy.
Although it was only touched upon briefly, I also liked the concept of Neo and Trinity going up against an omnipotent machine opponent who wasn't merely an expert in hand-to-hand combat, something more like AM from Harlan Ellison's 'I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream'.
