Why exactly is this 'worse' than Rec?

I watched Rec yesterday and I watched Quarantine today and I really don't see much difference. They're basically the same movie, with a few character or scene changes here and there. Is Quarantine just automatically pegged as "worse" for the sole reason that it's a remake? That's a pretty stupid reason, if you ask me. Yeah, I do like Rec better because I connected better with the characters instead of being annoyed and/or hating them, but still, that doesn't mean Quarantine is the worst film in the history of ever like some people make it out to be.

I will point out one thing I liked better in Rec and that was the zombie thing at the end of the movie. In Rec, I found it much scarier. From being a shadow in the distance to coming towards them and then beating the sh!t out of Pablo with a hammer. In Quarantine, the thing just happened to stumble into the room while Scott was filming. Much more effective in Rec, IMO.

Don't like me? F_ck off. Problem solved.

I have the same question. . .I just dont understand why people hate this film. The only reason I would ever put Rec. before Quarantine is because its the original. And quarantine wont ever go down in history as being a classic but Rec. will. . . and thats the way it should be, but give credit where credit is due. . .Quarantine is a good copy cat of Rec.

I haven't seen Rec yet (I know, I know, I've got to buy the DVD), so I can't compare them. But I absolutely love Quarantine. I have the Blu-Ray, plus I watch it every time Starz runs it, which seems to be every couple days. It seems like the Rec versus Quarantine debate is basically the same as the Ringu versus The Ring debate.

If you love Quarantine, you'll love Rec. Some people will try to tell you that you should or you will hate Quarantine after watching Rec. But I think about how these people would have hated Quarantine, regardless. Even if the director did change a few things around (which he didn’t) it would have still been hated basically by the same kind of people. Some individuals hate seeing their favorite movies being remade, and think it ruins the original (I don’t know how that works but that’s some of the stuff I've been hearing).
For Example: the same director is making a sequel to Quarantine and not going to copy Rec. 2, and I'm still hearing bad reviews about the film and it hasn't even came out, yet. I think they just raped up filming about a few weeks ago . . . They are still in the editing process.

So watch Rec. trust me you'll like it and I suggest watch Rec.2, I personally didn't like it but many people do. I saw Rec. 2 on OnDemand I don't know if its still there, though. . .its been a while.

Watch and be amazed how similar the two are, but the director was a new comer. The studio probably offered him this offer: a chance to make a future film his first time around . . . how could someone (a film maker) turn that down . . . you can’t! Everyone knows how hard it is for a film maker to get that big break. . . . “Copy a film with a chance to create more movies.” Any new director would jump for the opportunity to create a future film and show the studio you (the director) are capable “finishing” a full future film.

Why? Because it is totally unnecessary to make the same forking movie again. No matter in which direction you copy and from who you copy the result is nearly ALWAYS disappointing. No matter if European TV copies British or American TV or if Hollywankers copy European or British movies the result is feces. The Office might be the one exception to that rule, since it is the only American remake of something European (albeit British) that is actually good. Oh, in b4 nitpicking jerkholes that want to inform that Britain belong to Europe...you should know what I mean, if not thou shalt not use the internet.

Yeah people who love Rec and hate Quarantine are either deeply strange or are buying to much into the hype.

"Quarantine just automatically pegged as "worse" for the sole reason that it's a remake? That's a pretty stupid reason, if you ask me"

It makes a perfect sense if we are to judge movies as art and filmakers as artist. A guy who writes the most brilliant music or paints the most amazing paintings is clearly a genius and a great artist.
A guy who´s plays other people music or paint´s other peoples paintings can hardly be called an genius and is a rather lousy artist, even though if he is quite skilled in what he does.

Say for example if you think Dark side of the moon is the greates album of all time and then some other group releases it in it´s entirely. You are not gonna give it the same praise even if it sounds almost the same.

I however liked both movie, that last zombie was way more scary in Rec though

I completely agree.

People who hate remakes simply because they are remakes are very narrow minded and instantly hate them w/o giving them a fair shot. Most hater posters probably haven't even watched Quarentine. Look at the whole Rob Zombie vs John Carpenter Halloween debate. If you go into a remake counting all the things wrong with it and what doesn't match the original template, you are going to hate it simply because you are wasting your time. Maybe that's why I like remakes. For me, personally, had it not been for Quarentine, I never would have seen or even heard of REC. And for the record, I've seen both and I gotta say that neither one are all that great.

It's worse not just because of the un-originallity factor, but it added alot of completely unnecessary scenes, with over the top amounts of gore. To coin a cliche, it was so hollywood.

Yeah I watched both on the same day and I do not see much difference. Only that Quarantine is a bit more accessible / easier to follow but that's it. They both should be 6,5/10 I do not understand why the first got such a high rating.
