Why did it take so long for the little girl to 'turn'?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but why did it take so long? I guess we're to assume her infected dog slobbered on her or bit her to pass the virus on, so why did it take so long to turn? She sat around for a couple days (I'm assuming. She DID go to the doctor at some point for her dad to go get the antibiotics) acting sick but otherwise completely normal. She had a tiny body so wouldn't the virus spread faster than it did in the GROWN MEN who were infected? They turned within 30 minutes. I know it was to help with the plot but damn that was unrealistic.

You're assuming that Max bit her. But it is clearly stated by the CDC guy that Max didn't start attacking until he was at the vet. There is no indication that Max bit anyone at the apartment complex. Since Scott was not following each person every single second, I assume Brianna became infected by contact with one of the already infected residents.

She was probably bit by a flea that fed on her dog.

Thus maybe the tininess of the bite made for a slower turning time. Notice those who got bigger bites seemed to turn faster.

It won't give up, it wants me dead-God damn this noise inside my head...

i think she kissed the dog and got some slobber on her mouth which infected her, but since she wasn't bit that's why the virus didnt spread as fast. like that cop got it in the throat pretty bad or the mom that got bit in the face. same thing for zombies. the bigger the bite the faster you turn.

Besides the little girl:

- Her dog also changed slowly (or it would've attacked everyone immediately).

- The African family also had a 'sick' father.

- The old lady at the beginning was also slower to attack people.

So it seems children, the elderly and animals change more slowly.
