Too much screaming? (spoilers)

A lot of posts on here were saying that there was too much screaming by Jennifer Carpenter's character, I think that was very realistic, given the situation she was in, people aren't perfect, can and will make mistakes at any time and will panic, IMO I don't see a difference between this and 2003's Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Jessica Biel & Erica Leershen's character's were just like Angela in Quarantine. But, what do you think? Was there a difference besides the obvious different movies? Did she scream too much or do you think it was it was a realistic portrayal of a woman scared to death with no hope of survival?

Agreed. It would be odd if she didn't scream and hyperventilate. Hell, it's odd she didn't ball up in a corner and drool.

As for Jessica Beil, I don't remember her screaming a whole lot. I haven't seen that movie in years, but I don't remember her overdoing the screams.

Yeah, given the situation she's in, I can't blame her for crying or screaming. Many of us here would likely do the same.

I wasn't bothered by the screaming, as it's a perfect situation to scream about. The character was clearly freaking out, and there was a slow progression to it throughout the movie. You can tell that she's startled early in the movie because she jumps when the firemen kick open the door.

I once heard that SAW had too much screaming -- The guy was sawing off his foot, I think that'll warrant a scream. Some people just like to complain about stuff, even though it makes perfect sense in a real life scenario.

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

rmcrae_deluxe, they did, remember when R. Lee Ermey's character didn't believe their story about Leatherface, he shot his gun at them and Erica Leershen's character was screaming, blubbering and shouting 'We're gonna die!' Sorta similiar to Jennifer Carpenter's panicked screams in here. Jessica Biel's character screamed a lot when she was on her own and found out the truth about Leatherface. 'That's not your baby, you STOLE HER!!' I thought that was an excellent flick, quite good for a remake, like this film IMO.

LOL, yeah, I don't want this thread deleted, a couple other ones have been deleted by IMDb after almost three weeks. Anyway, hey, great minds think alike. 

I thought it was insanely realistic, and it didn't annoy me at all. If anything, I felt it added to creepiness/scariness of the movie. Her hyperventilating was actually giving me an anxiety attack!

Her screaming, after a certain point, actually really bothered me. So did some of the stuff in the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

It was annoying, but can be considered as realistic.

Are you talking about Quarantine or the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake?

Don't eva let nobody tell you you ain't strong enough

reply

All of them, but Quarantine in particular. I was actually referring to the original Texas Chainsaw, which had a lot of nonstop, insane screaming.

reply

It'll probably drive you crazy in Rec.

I saw the original TCM and had a good laugh.

Laugh? I found that movie to be disturbing.

reply

Really? I found The Cell disturbing. Have you seen that?

reply

The original TCM? Yeah! It's gross and a little too realistic for me. I didn't like it. I didn't find it entertaining, but can honestly say it did it's job (creeped me out). Old horror (like from the 70's) is a little creepy. It has the creepy, realistic (cause of the camera they used) look and it always feels like borderline porn.

I have seen The Cell. LOOOOOONNNG time ago.

"I have seen The Cell. LOOOOOONNNG time ago."

THAT is creepy and disturbing. Too many scenes to list, but the one with J. Lo discovering the "exhibits" of his victims still gives me chills.

I know it's been 2 and a half years, but yes. I watched The Cell again the other night and it's still awesome. And hella creepy. 

Freakin' A. Is this all she's good for? She screams a lot in Emily Rose, then cries and complains a lot about her size-6 thighs in White Chicks. I'm just realistically wondering if she can perform in any other sort of genre.

reply

The original TCM will probably give audiences a migraine these days haha!

"I am the ultimate badass, you do not wanna `*beep*` wit me!"- Hudson in Aliens.

reply

I agree, I think she overplayed her character, and it came to a point where it started to annoy me, realistic or not. Just my two cents.

reply

It honestly bothered me. I know that in a situation like that I would probably screaming my head off but it was so annoying the way she did it. I wanted her to shut up and do something, help out but the only thing she did was scream scream and scream some more. The actress did a good job but the character's (Angela) annoyed me to no end!

I'm always naked under my clothes.

reply

Yeah, I agree, but she knew that they weren't going to let them out, I think in a real life situation, we would all be like that, knowing your friends are gone and you're stuck in this place full of all these infected people. I think Biel's character, Erin was stuck in the same kind of way, only difference is that she had a town to explore, whereas Angela was stuck in the building. Erin was basically stuck in the town, because the Hewitts were like the only family left, like Hoyt said in the sequel. But IMO they went through seriously frightening events, Angie may have had it slightly worst, though.

Girls scream their heads off over the smallest things sometimes. =D I scare my female friends and sisters all the time and they seriously freak out sometimes, some people freeze and can't even squeeze out a whimper, others bellow like a foghorn. It varies, but most women I know, and men, would react and freak the *beep* out just like her.

reply

I can understand some screaming, when she first saw someone coming at her, saw an animal coming at her, knew she was shafted and never getting out. I actually think they might have made it out alive because the CDC would want to experiment on them. But back to the screaming. I kept waiting on the cameraman to jack slap her! Who wants to put up with that crap when your scared to death and trying to think. I vote for slapping her.

reply

LOL, I agree, I wouldn't be able to think or concentrate on anything. But, I don't think anybody could or would be able to concentrate like a normal person, your survival instincts would kick in. Angela's screaming was like the TCM films, original and the recent remakes, disturbing for the fact that there IS no help and no way to escape. Another good example of screaming would be 28 Days Later, when the infected are attacking the compound, those screams were pretty disturbing as well. I agree that the screams were annoying to a point, but that's how it would be in real life, especially in being in that kind of position.

Although there are times screaming is appropriate, I felt there was a tad too much.

She started to really get on my nerves with the endless screaming, the guy should have slapped her. That's what you are supposed to do when someone is hysterically screaming to make them snap out of it somewhat and calm down. Maybe if you slap hard enough they concentrate on the pain instead? Who knows..LOL

Yes it's a horrible situation to be in but I'd never be carrying on like that. I'm not a screamer - I'd be shook up and scared and even silently whimper. I'd pull myself together as much as I could and do what would be needed to get done.
