Anyone else love how Angela was written?

In so many horror movies we are given protagonists who barely seem worried about the fact that they are probably going to die. Sure, they'll scream once or twice, and MAYBE we'll hear some intense breathing if we're lucky, but almost never do we get full on panic. That's what I love about Angela.

She was useless, she was annoying, she was human. Watching her character slowly unravel until there was nothing left in her except pure fear was the best part of the movie. People love to pretend that they would be the "heroes" in these situations, but let's get real, most people would act like Angela if they were thrown into a situation like that.

Watching real characters experiencing real, paralyzing fear is so much more entertaining than watching the usual, bland final girl act badass in the end.

I do agree it was nice to see a lead as the blubbering fool we would realistically become, but it was also highly annoying. She did the same stuff in Dexter. When she finally stopped shrieking like a cat in heat Dexter got a lot better.

agreed. loved the character writing of her. she looked and sounded natural when freaking out. can't say the same thing with the cameraman but jennifer carpenter was awesome in this. i ain't a movie guru but i think this was an amazing performance.

I wasn't impressed with her in the beginning. Her attempts to sound like a bubbly TV reporter came off too phony. But I do agree she suddenly gets better towards the end, especially in the apartment scene with the snipers (a scene not in the original, and an idea borrowed from [Rec]2)

In the Trivia section, they said Jennifer requested not to see the attic set, so that when she was in there for real, her disoriented fear would seem more believable.
