Why not just lock yourself in an apartment

and wait it out? Lock all the doors, stay quiet and no rabies-infected people will even know you're there. Eventually someone from the government is going to come in and kill all the infected.

I was kidnapped by a pack of mimes. They performed unspeakable acts on me

Eventually someone from the government is going to come in and kill all the infected.
It's speculation, but perhaps they were afraid that if they had done this, they wouldn't survive anyway? I was under the impression that they were trying to get out secretly without the anyone knowing because, given what they knew, the world outside didn't care about any possible survivors anyway considering they barricaded everyone in with the already sick, shot anyone (included healthy people) who tried to escape, and turned off all electricity to the building giving them even less chance of survival. They didn't seem to care about survivors; they just wanted to prevent the spread of the disease. That bears to question why they would ever anticipate any help after they were pretty much left for dead inside the building in the first place?

As a matter of fact, the world does revolve around me.

The movie made it pretty obvious that the government had no intention of taking survivors.

Because the people who tried that got pulled out of their apartments by the main group. I really never understood why they thought they needed to all stay together.

But honestly, the government was far more likely to kill them all. When they did send some people in to get proof of what was going on, it didn't go so well. Would they really send more people in to get killed or just set the building on fire?

reply

Don't forget the infected rats coming after people. They would be able to sniff out and get to a healthy person much better than an infected human anyway.

Government isn't coming in. That's within the premise.

So they're screwed regardless. If you are the cop though, I'd have shot everyone in the head, or at least the infected without hesitation.

In situation like this, you kill the first zombie and anyone he bit as soon as possible. And the infection is effectively stopped. Don't try to save nobody, put the morals aside.

reply

that's what the government is doing.

I only just watched it for the first time but i think when they were viewing the tv feed, the person of authority being interviewed said the building had been cleared which made it obvious after that, they would not be getting out alive with outside help.

Because the script said for the cop to herd everyone into the lobby. There is much less potential for action if the tenants stay in their apartments.
