Jason Bateman's character...sheesh

Are there really men out there that are THIS irritating and overbearing? I know there are plenty of petty women to go around but my God I've never met a dude as douchy and irritating as Bateman's character. I was left with the feeling of hoping Kristen Bell would ditch him. Is that what the movie was shooting for? That type of response? I doubt it, that would be highly odd to make the audience despise a character in a semi Rom-Com.

Yes, there really are men out there like this that don't see just how irritating they are. I didn't blame his wife for jumping out of the canoe and swimming back to shore. The couple that should have gotten divorced was Kristen Davis and Jon Favreau, they were both pigs. ugh. I just hated how everything was wrapped in a pretty bow all in the course of about 5 minutes.

I think that Jason Bateman's & Jon Favreau's relationships both tanked about 6 months after the couples returned to real life. I agree with your opinion!

Amen to the OP. Jason was an insufferable, selfish ass and I really thought that he and Cynthia would split up, because I couldn't imagine anyone willingly being with him, much less having his children. He gives some half-assed apology to his wife and suddenly all is well? Lame.

I also agree that Joey and Lucy's (Favreau & Davis) relationship wouldn't last long. They only hooked up in the end because they were jealous that their spouse was with someone else, but their concerns are real; they had a shotgun wedding and neither of them really enjoyed their youth. I think they would last on their renewed passion for a little while, but eventually start arguing with each other and finally divorce.

LOL, I know I'm reading too much into this lousy movie. But it was such a predictable, crap ending.

There are people a lot like Jason Smith and Cynthia in real life. That was the point of the characters. They both seemed to mean well, but were way over organized, straddling the point of absurdity.

There was rigidness and tension with that couple. But that's not unrealistic.
