Is is the AGE disparity, OR the LOOKS disparity -- that bothers you?

Couples Retreat:

Jon Favreau 43
Kristin Davis 44

Vince Vaughn 39
Malin Akerman 31

Jason Bateman 40
Kristen Bell 29

But if you are so worked up about it and think that's bad, refer to previous "norms". If anything, one can argue that Hollywood is actually getting more realistic.

Gone With the Wind:

Clark Gable 38
Vivian Leigh 26
Olivia de Havilland 23

Casablanca:

Humphrey Bogart 43
Ingrid Bergman 27

North by Northwest:

Cary Grant 55
Eva Marie Saint 35

High Noon:

Gary Cooper 51
Grace Kelly 23

Most recently, every actress who starred "romantically" opposite of Harrison Ford was at least 20 years his junior (and that includes his private life).

Or are we worked up about the LOOKS disparity? After all it can also be argued that it's easier to "swallow" age difference if the leading man who "bags" the "babe" at least looks "manly and husbandly" like a romanticized notion of a "real man" (Cary Grant), and not like a frat slob way past his expiration date (VV & JF).

Was wondering.

I liked the movie and the age thing never really took me out of the story, but now that I think of it, Kristin Davis looked good but you can still see how much she's aged since SATC and it just didnt seem like that particular couple could have conceived their daughter on prom night when you can pretty clearly see how old they really are.

Also it was kinda obvious that Jason Bateman was significately older than Kristen Bell. I always thought that couple was really odd to me. It seemed like Kristen Bell (Cythnia) should have been older than she was because they were having fertility problems and that whole couple was just seemed off to me.

I hate nit picking and I liked this movie but thats just what I noticed, I've definately learned to suspend belief or else the movie/ tv show is definately ruined for you.

Don't be afraid to fall in love. It's the only thing that matters in life

Now that you mention it, I think Jason Bateman and Kristin Davis would have made more sense and Kristin Bell and Jon Favreau?

Although there is *something* kind of cute about Jason Bateman and Kristin Bell together.

"A family. Nothing else matters...it's mom, hide!"

I don't think it was Bell's fault that they were having fertility problems. Bateman had testicular cancer, so likely he has one testicle, and his other one may be affected by it. He won't acknowledge fault in any other situation in the movie, so he'd blame her for that too.

I don't remember him having cancer but the same scenario played out in SATC with Miranda and Steve and she got pregnant on the first try.

Perhaps our greatest cruelty is our blindness to the despair of others.

They talked about him making a PowerPoint presentation about ball cancer, that his was found early enough and he wanted his friends to know how to find lumps.

I was going to comment on the ridiculous age differences, but I guess Kristen Bell only looks like she's 22.

I guess I'm wondering how this is ridiculous when you have couples like this in real life. I'm not talking about celebrities either. People post on boards about looks, age & weight but catch an episode of any show that real couples are on. The Newlywed Game, Family Feud, Paternity Court, Divorce Court, Maury, Jerry, Steve Wilkos. You'll see fat is married to skinny. Old to young. Black to White. Hispanic to Asian. Very tall to very short. Educated to un-educated. Rich to poor. Ugly to beautiful or handsome. No matter what kind it is- opposites attract.

why do you assume the age of the character and the age of the actors is the same? we only know the age of one character, Trudi, who is 20. The other couples one would assume are around the same age since they seem to be a circle of friends

reply

Favreau and Davis are the only ones that are officially the same age, due to meeting in high school. Akerman and Vaughn have been married seven years, with no mention of how long Bell and Bateman have been married.

No, Hollywood is modernising just like the west. 100 years ago and further back age differences of 10 or 15 were nothing, couples could have 20-50 years in difference.

Men worked, women were housewives, men would establish a career and settle down about 45-50, women would look to marry in to privilege from 19. The likes of a grey-haired Mozart romancing a teenager was the norm. If anyone thinks we live in a sexist world now, you would have shat bricks in 1850.

You don't know sh!t, Jon Snow!

Most of the women look younger than they are and Jason Bateman looks younger than he is..
The only one that bothered me was Jon Favreau..
I'm not sure it had anything to do with age though..sometimes it is the most disgustingly unappealing man that is more prone to mess around.
