iron lung???

Iron lungs exist - they're machines to help people breathe. Especially polio patients. But yes, the lawyer was joking. Sometimes people don't want to necessarily divulge they're epileptic. The dog was trained (somehow, I don't know the specifics) to tell when the lawyer was about to go into a seizure. It's actually really cool (the dog's ability) and really useful. It allows the epileptic live their life and when a seizure is about to happen, they'll have the dog warn them so they can kinda prepare a bit - medicine now? but also, pulling over if in a car, or just generally getting into a space so they can ride the seizure out safely.

It's what convince's the lawyer to take Anna's case - he can't control his body, he has no way to know exactly when he'll have the seizure beyond the dog (he can't just wake up one day and know that'll be the day it'll happen). So when this young girl walks into his office asking him to help her make her parents stop forcing her to endure medical tests that have no medical benefit to HER, cause her pain, and could negatively impact her future, of course he's willing to do it. He gets Anna.

An iron lung is something you have to lie inside in order to breathe. If he actually had an iron lung, it'd be very obvious.

It was a joke. The lawyer had the dog to detect his seizures. Believe it or not, my mom's dog was able to do this with me when I lived at home - he woke her up on several occasions and she found me having a convulsive seizure. He would "guard" me until I was fully out of it, despite it actually takes hours to be fully fine again. He almost bit my stepdad for wanting to hug me before going to work one morning do to this.
