Most British and Australian actors can do american accents easily, it's the other way around that is a rare and impressive.

Agree. I generally cannot stand him as an actor but he was quite impressive here. I wasn’t a big fan of this film but cannot deny that some of the performances were very good.
I think one of his biggest negatives is that he's an odd looking guy which will limit his roles.
