Why did IMDB get rid of it's forums?

Why didn't people move to this website whenever IMDB got rid of it's forums?

reply

We did.. that's why we're posting here.

reply

IMDB was getting pressure from celebrities, actors, directors, etc. about being criticized for their crappy movies and perverted lifestyles.

reply

Not true...πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

reply

true....... they would not have any criticism of their shitty and/or woke movies...... right now they are even deleting regular movie reviews by users.... google the stories for yourself.
just amazing, they have sunk to a new low. 😳

reply

Maybe now but that was not what the reason was 3 years ago....

reply

The reason a few years ago made no sense. It was to "protect users from harassment" or some such nonsense. Nevermind you could block/ignore other users so who or what were they protecting and from whom? Trolls? You'll find them on any user-interactive community.

Tom8's assessment rings a little closer to the truth even though that's not the official reasons they gave. The official reasons they gave made zero sense.

Amen

reply

No it was because of intense trolling from a user named naemik, who somehow was able to create hundreds of sock puppet accounts and was stalking, trying to destroy the ceo of imdb's family using the message boards. There were hundreds of screenshots around the time it all went down. He would send stuff to his daughters, really nasty sexual stuff, endless harassment.

One guy destroyed everything. thanks, naemik.

reply

He was a Nolanite too.

reply

Not exactly. They pay big money for Imdb Pro and they don't like basement trolls trashing them on the forums. Col Needham goes to events and got a earful.

reply

bullshit, users could just block anyone they did not like talking to.

real reason for imdb board shutdown: censorship

reply

More to do with racism and derogatory language. It was becoming what you would see on Twitch chats or the dark channels on Discord. Kiddies with attitude and stuff like that. I wish the actors and such would come on here and chat as well, I miss those interactions. Felt like the crew cared and listened or rather engaged where you felt validated in voicing some of your opinions so you change your views on things or learn something new.

reply

They got rid of them because it cost money to monitor and maintain the boards. Amazon bought IMDB. It is used as a means for monetary gain now not loss. Why would they spend money to moderate a bunch of fighting nerds????

reply

For anyone not sure of the reason, ^^^THIS^^^ is the correct reason.

reply

no, it was censorship

reply

of course, Amazon does not have any money.. right! moron!

reply

Why would they spend money on something that they get nothing from?

reply

they got plenty from it.... people talking and discussing about movies!!

in case you haunt noticed it, movie ticket sales are down, fewer people care about woke hollywood movies anymore. and this place, moviechat, is one of the few places left.

and this place right here do not generate one 10th of the traffic imdb boards had.

fewer people talking about something...... = less interest and money

reply

STFU fatboy...I think all that fat has gotten to your brain...πŸ˜‚

reply

fat ?
sounds like you are projecting, this is just sad :-(

reply

Projecting what? You are fat. Go back on your couch and stuff your face....

reply

The actual reason. It is costly to maintain the boards.

reply

Yeah. That what I said....

reply

whats the cost to maintain chat boards? the forums were active for around 20 years then suddenly they cant afford it?

makes no sense...

reply

Cost of maintaining / moderating the boards to the satisfaction of those Amazon wanted to mine for cash (the movie biz) made it a negative sum game to keep the forum. To make sense of corporate decisions you just have to follow the money.

reply

good point, word of mouth did spread fast on IMDb, maybe it affected studios bottom line.

IMDb also started the trend of disabling comments/chat boards on other websites. Yahoo and WAPO are 2 that I remember, and I also find it highly coincidental that IMDb shut down a few weeks after Trump took office in 2017.

maybe its just a coincidence?

reply

it was shut down shortly after Trump won...pretty big coincidence...

reply

yeah, libs were very angry.... they needed to take their small dick syndrome and aggressions out on someone or something

reply

Amazon consolidated its review process for content associated with its product (physical media and digital) and decided that it was time to control how that content was reviewed without subjective pandering, trolling, and 3rd party propaganda. It use to have an open forum with dedicated moderators but they're now in charge of monitoring customer reviews of all of their content and products. It doesn't make sense to dedicate labor to a open forum where users can register and troll 24/7.

reply

"now in charge of monitoring customer reviews"

yes, they are now deleting user movie reviews .. and you are fine with that.

reply

china asked so

reply

Because idiots didn't know the difference between it's and its.

reply

Most people left or never post because of the poor moderation here and how offensive it is for children, or civilized human beings.
