Who shold have played Carl instead of Carrey?

Age differences can be overlooked as long as they are within reason. At least try to stick by the rule of thumb -half your age plus 7. Applying that rule, the youngest woman that should have been starring opposite Carrey would be in her early 30s.

Now, who would have been a better male lead than Carrey to star opposite Zooey? After some thought, I would say Justin Bartha. He is a rising star - was funny in the National Treasure series and the Hangover and is a believable love interest for Deschanel.

lol @ the Dane Cook responses, he's not funny, nowhere near attractive as Zooey which makes the romance even less believable than it was with Carey. I actually think Carey isn't replaceable in this role. I think they needed someone a little older and less attractive than Zooey. She didn't look a day over 26 and was obviously too beautiful for Carey's character.

I think Sheryl Crow would have been good in zooey daschanel's role. Someone in their late 30s or 40s.

I don't think Carrey's role needed to be Jim Carrey, though I always appreciate seeing him in movies. To match up with Daschanel... maybe Kat Dennings - that'd be interesting! It'd be good to have lesbians as main characters and that not be what the story is about.
